Cosmopolitan does not give a numerical rank, but this is the first movie that shows up, so I guess it's #1.
I know it is Cosmopolitan, but it is interesting what liberals think.

Richard Burton’s last great performance in the role of O’Brien in 1984.

Pretty solid list of flicks. I haven’t seen 9 of them.

When did we end up in one? Seriously, it’s like the bad guys won a sci-fi movie!

there’s too many dystopian movies and almost no utopian movies.

Given Cosmo’s very leftist bent, I would not be surprised if ‘Cast a Giant Shadow’ was on their list of ‘dystopia movies’!

Certain aspects of Hunger Games (the crazies in the Capitol vs the great unwashed) are fairly prophetic.

I’ve seen about 90% of those on the list. Read some replies that has some good ones that didn’t make the cosmo cut.

I guess "The Lobster" was dystopian. I thought of it as just weird.
One comment about "The Walking Dead" shows is that the dystopia is also a kind of utopia -- an alternative intentional "green" community. That doesn't seem to be the case with most of these movies.
Here is a much more complete list

Lists like this are usually lame and this one is no exception. Disappointing to not see one of the best ones IMO, “BRAZIL”, directed by Terry Gilliam of Monty Python. Well, what do you expect from Cosmo which is basically trash.

Very strange I don’t see I Am Legend with Will Smith.

All on the list are modern movies AND mostly ones taken from "kiddie"/"tween" books.
These lists are written by very young, not movie knowledgeable people, like the comedy movie list posted yesterday.
No SOYLENT GREEN?
No CHILDREN OF MEN?
No THINGS TO COME ( 1940 movie, from a book my H.G. Wells )?
No TIME MACHINE? I could go on and and on; but then, I love movies and am knowledgeable!
I left out a couple of the movies from the Silent era, because they were futuristic, but not exactly Dystopian.
