I hate this story. On the one hand, if there were actually orders not to put the deer down, then the department was justified in terminating the officer.
On the other hand, the absolute stupidity of those orders makes my head hurt. The families in that neighborhood don’t own the deer, don’t have any right to prevent it from being put down, and now they’ve caused a professional to lose his job because of their narcissistic fetish for a deer that has gotten so used to humans that it no longer fears them. That’s disgusting.
Agreed. Plus the country is absolutely overrun with tens of millions of those big rats and no predators. (North Idaho certainly is)
“they’ve caused a professional to lose his job”
No, Deputy Dooshbag lost his job because he went against orders and had no authority to kill the deer. It’s all on him. He owns this.
It’s idiotic of him that he refused to follow direct orders. And it’s typical of our modern -extremist- government that if a deer lets an officer pet it, it obviously needs to be killed on the spot as a menace.
All my life there has been the occasional campground or neighbor or whatever where a tame deer lets people feed it or something. Sane people enjoy such things.
He needs some serious psych evaluation.
