Mich. officer fired after killing 'friendly' deer against department instructions"He acted independently [and] committed multiple policy violations in his decision to euthanize [Annie the deer],” Chief Mario RedLegs saidOct 30, 2023 By Joanna Putman Police1
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — An officer has been fired after he went against instructions from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and euthanized a deer that locals called “Annie,” News Channel 3 reported.
While responding to an unrelated domestic incident on Oct. 20, Officer David Loza wrangled the deer with a neck strap and shot it to death. Residents were outraged, according to the report.
Pokagon Tribal Police Department Chief Mario RedLegs released a statement Friday saying that Loza had consulted with his supervising officer about the deer, but had ignored his instructions, according to the report.
"Despite consulting with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and his supervising officer, Mr. Loza ignored comments from citizens and misidentified Annie as a 'pet deer.' He acted independently, committed multiple policy violations in his decision to euthanize Annie without just cause," RedLegs said.
The statement continued, " His actions demonstrated a complete lack of compassion and empathy for Annie as well as the witnesses and other members who willingly provided her with love and support."
Annie had become friendly with local residents, according to reports. Lawrence resident Pamela Babb told News Channel 3 her family rescued Annie two years ago after the fawn's mother was hit and killed by a car.
The only “friendly deer” is a tasty deer.
Must have mistook the Deer for the family dog...
Well there has to be more to the story.
“Well there has to be more to the story.”
He saw a GUN!!!
Uh, “Annie” is a dude dear?!?!

She was named when she had spots.
Of course, these days, who are we to judge?
Casper the Friendly Ghost and now Annie the Friendly Deer.
When the overpopulated and diseased deer were culled by a professional company of sharpshooters, some nerdy young males sat down in the restricted zones to purposely stop the hunt. Portions of the area had to be abandoned due to the protest.
This was in Washtenaw County, Michigan last year.
One joke earlier was Leftists should go out in the woods and put a condom on each male to keep the deer population down.
Probably identifies as a honey badger....
I hate this story. On the one hand, if there were actually orders not to put the deer down, then the department was justified in terminating the officer.
On the other hand, the absolute stupidity of those orders makes my head hurt. The families in that neighborhood don’t own the deer, don’t have any right to prevent it from being put down, and now they’ve caused a professional to lose his job because of their narcissistic fetish for a deer that has gotten so used to humans that it no longer fears them. That’s disgusting.
Agreed. Plus the country is absolutely overrun with tens of millions of those big rats and no predators. (North Idaho certainly is)

Haven’t you ever heard a Midwesterner pronounce “Andre”?
LOL
Ok...
Now I’m confused..
Just a few weeks ago, the head of our dnr, or whatever it’s being called this week, sent out a blistering letter to all hunters, basically telling us that we were not taking enough deer, called us everything but a white man, demanded that we take more deer( still can’t hunt over a bait pile though ) and now a DNR agent is fired for killing a deer?
WTF kind of stupid is running this state?
Asside from being a POS he must have been a really poor shot to have to tie the deer up. Typical thug cop.
“Sorry. I thought it was Bambi.”

Well, in Michigan they have plenty of predators - wolves, bears and coyotes, not to mention hunters.
*typed between spoonfuls venison chilli*
“...and now a DNR agent is fired for killing a deer?”
