You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!
I wouldn’t even know where to BEGIN a project like that, let alone complete it!
As with sewing and crochet, I’m all about straight lines and simple patterns. :)
The color pattern is working out great & so is working in the round - yay!! I am just thrilled that I changed the color pattern - it’s going to be cute. It looks SO much better ‘in the round’, too. Joins are easier as is carrying the yarn.
Now I am at the heel. I don’t like the pattern heel (so what else is new, right? LOL!). Just got to make things harder for myself. The stitches are all double crochet which works great, but trying to get the color pattern to work while crocheting in the heel is going to be a “trick” - might not work out, but we’ll see. I’m using the heel pattern from the first two stockings I made - it’s pretty clever. There were 40 stitches to account for on that pattern - I have 48, but I see how she’s got them laid out, so I should be able to adjust. If it works, you may hear me celebrating :-)
Ooh ooh ... just had a thought. The heel is red. I could just do a red dc (maybe sc) row around to get the heel crocheted in - it would look like part of the heel, then I could pick up the color pattern after that - I think that might be ‘the ticket’!!
Got the heel in - worked beautifully & did not need extra red rows.
Now I am rethinking the cuff. The one on the pattern is just sc, folded over - doesn’t do the beautiful plaid justice, IMO. The stocking with the heel pattern I used has a ribbed cuff which would do nicely. I also have another idea for a ribbed cuff using hdc that I will probably try on a test swatch - it will either be really pretty or a miserable fail. The ribbed cuff is my fallback option. Whatever cuff design I use will go on the 2nd stocking too.
The foot looks out of proportion to the top, but that's just the angle at which I had to take the pic to keep my feet out of the frame.
I really love how this turned out. It's a combo of 2 patterns & although I used the technique from another pattern for crocheting the cuff on the stocking, I came up with the crochet stitch pattern - looks like knitted ribbing.
I am now in 'bobble hell', working on the 2nd stocking, which is going to be super cute if I can get it figured out. The heel & cuff will be the same design as the plaid stocking, so that's 2 things I don't have to figure out from scratch.
