If you have only passing familiarity with The Twilight Zone — maybe only really knowing its iconic opening sequence — you might be forgiven for thinking that the classic television show centered on scary themes. In reality, however, while the show certainly had a dark atmosphere and included plenty of suspense, creepiness, and dread, it fell more into the genres of science fiction and fantasy than horror. It was layered more with incisive insights into the dynamics of the individual mind and the group collective than outright frights. The monsters of the show lived in people’s heads; its chills were of the existential variety.
Nevertheless, there are some episodes of The Twilight Zone that land on the more traditionally frightening side of things. Not on the level of modern horror flicks, mind you, but as compared to the rest of the series. Of these episodes, here are the five scariest:

“Two” is also my favorite: Charles Bronson and Elizabeth Montgomery.
But I thought her dress was awful.
Elizabeth Montgomery and Charles Bronson as the last two survivors, from opposite sides of the big war.
1. Monsters on Main Street. - Aliens manipulate the people on a street into suspecting each other of being aliens.
2. The Hitchhiker - A young woman drives across the country and continuously sees a “tramp” trying to hitchhike with her.
3. To Serve Man - A “benevolent” alien race comes to earth and takes volunteers on a ride back to their planet for a “vacation of a lifetime”.

What I appreciate the most was each story was completely new and different each week. The set-up, plot and finale were new each week.
You don’t see that in TV now.
FYI, they are carrying them now on MGM+ commercial free.
“It’s a Good Life” encapsulates the current college campus dynamic. Faculty are scared of what the kids say and think and do. The Admins praise the kids for everything they do. And the kids would totally send everyone to the cornfield if given the power. They get high enough on cancel culture. Imagine if they could send everyone to the cornfield.

Is this that episode?
Not scary but the episode called The Whole Truth is a fun favorite.
A used car salesman buys a haunted car that causes the owner to tell the truth.
He finally unloads the ancient jalopy on a rep for Kruschev, looking for a propaganda prop to use as the typical American car.
I thought the gremlin was one of the scariest things ever, as well as the one in the diner with the devil head.
Airborne, right? 11th?
“No change! No change at all!”
I love the Art Carney one. It’s one of our favorites.
LOL!
Rod and I have the same favorite episode. Walking Distance.
