Recently, he came to me with what he thought was a bright idea. He suggested that I use some of my stipend and also money from my loans and grants to help him repay his student loans.
I absolutely detest the idea and told him so.
During a recent argument, the ‘s’ word came out. He’s never called me selfish before, but now he’s calling me all sorts of names that have to do with me withholding money from him. He says he doesn’t want to be with someone who’s not willing to build with him and support him.

Okay...make it a business transaction and have him sign promissory notes on what you give him toward the loans. If you break up at least you have something to show the court if need be. This way you can support him and protect yourself. If he balks at the idea you have all of the information you need about the relationship.
Just say byebye and put his bags on the porch.
I agree with so many. Only a mentally ill person would tolerate such a relationship.

Not an uncommon story but I worked with a gal years ago. Her husband was just finishing med school, which she had paid for, two jobs from time to time plus actually did ironing for pay. He graduated, received his residency, she was so excited, her sacrifice was ready to payoff and they could start a family, a month later he filed for divorce. She had a complete mental breakdown, unable to work for months.
Do NOT use your loans and grants to pay off his loans! Especially using your borrowed money to pay off his debt, which would leave you without the money you borrowed, and incurring the debt for the money you borrowed, too.
There are women in my family who have ended up supporting a man their entire adult life.
My cousin had a live in boyfriend who got a hold of her credit cards and ruined her credit.
Not that wasn’t enough he somehow put a mortgage on their house without her knowledge and spent it all in his side piece.
Men,like women, can be scum.
