Well, I farmed for a year and grew a crop of corn
That stretched as far as the eye can see
That’s a whole lot of cornflakes,
Near enough to feed New York till 1973

Cultivation is my station and the nation
Buys my corn from me immediately
And holding sixty thousand bucks, I watch as dumper trucks
Tip New York’s corn flakes in the sea

“””For some kids, that’s about the only food they get.”””

I’m not buying that at all, I’ve never seen it or heard about it, I experienced it in the 50s but because my mother would not plug into any government assistance and I have kept an eye out for this sort of thing in modern America and have not found it anywhere.

We started growing some of our own food, but it is a lot of work, takes more land than expected and water. All worth it.

Kudos to you! We grow some of our own too, but not much. At most 10% of our vegetables. If the Biden diaper hits the fan we might be forced to lookup recipes for kudzu. LOL

This concept is the main reason we have solar, an all-electric home, and an EV. I like coal, natural gas, and oil except that I can't procure those on my own like I can do electricity from decentralized solar. We're doing anything we can do to make ourselves more self-sufficient -- without working too hard at it. LOL

If mama is passed out from crack all day, I suppose it’s true it’s the only way the kids will get fed.

It’s what I saw in the 1990’s in the welfare town we lived in for too many years.

Your lack of experience with it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen where you haven’t been.

Any poor mom druggie gets food stamps and WIC and the kids have cheap junk food they can fix themselves or even shop for themselves if mom is a catatonic doper.

A baby starving because the mom forgets to feed it would be a freak drug thing that doesn’t figure into a discussion about hunger.

I’ve lived all over and in many of the poorest areas of cities, and live in a poor area now and I know all about the food banks and food stamps.

The poor have food in modern America, even the homeless do.

How do they manage that— the needs testing for an Ivy League fully paid “student”

I haven't seen the form to apply, but they technically declare themselves independent, and having little income, are approved immediately. There seems to be almost nothing to it and Dept of Ag administrators in this big, blue city really don't care. Its a huge scam, and once one student proved successful, hundreds followed.

Did anyone actually watch it? It doesn’t have to do with food stamps. It has to do with the Bidenomics economy pressuring folks into reducing the quality of food they can afford because of prices. Is no one here actually not feeling this at the shelves? We sure are, beef is almost unaffordable at all.

I have seen many different statistics on obesity in the USA. It would be interesting to see the rate of obesity for people on food stamps. If food stamps could only be used for natural single ingredient foods like potatoes and chicken and green beans but not on packaged processed foods, the rate would change

During the summer, public school kitchens are open at school offering free breakfast and lunch. Our district also has 2 roving food trucks for the same purpose. All be cause of hungry kids. I’ll tell you, I’ve been in education for 25 years and I’ve not stepped over one dead kid that has died of starvation. I haven’t seen one kid with a swollen belly, ribs showing and flies buzzing.

“””””During the summer, public school kitchens are open at school offering free breakfast and lunch. Our district also has 2 roving food trucks for the same purpose.”””””

I live feet away from the community center and the kids are offered free lunches every day during the summer, with no means testing.
I think the operations we are describing are about social conditioning, making the government routine and a part of our daily life, family life, and of our childhood.

When it comes to voting, these generations will not be open to limited government arguments, the very idea will be absurd to them.

Not a thing in your reply that I don’t disagree with.

Quick story, few years back I was in a parking lot of one of my schools. Black guy comes running up and says “does you know anything about that free lunch thing? cause I’z got 5 kids that need to gets fed”?

5 more get attached to the teat of government.

They can if they want but they still let their kids go hungry.

“They can if they want but they still let their kids go hungry.”

Then arrest and charge them with neglect. Send a few to prison. The rest will get the message.
