After everything that Moscow did to Ukraine in the 20th century alone, can anybody blame them for wanting to be rid of all the symbols and institutions of that oppression?
No. But honoring Nazis and those who collaborated with the Nazis? Seriously? Ukrainians were the most vicious, enthusiastic and sadistic non-German torturers and murderers of Jews during WWII. That is a fact. Lithuanians were a close second. The history's out there for all to see. Stop trying to defend the indefensible.
"The antisemitic canard of Jewish Bolshevism provided justification for the revenge killings by the ultranationalist Ukrainian People's Militia, which accompanied German Einsatzgruppen moving east.[28] In Boryslav (prewar Borysław, Poland, population 41,500), the SS commander gave an enraged crowd, which had seen bodies of men murdered by NKVD and laid out in the town square, 24 hours to act as they wished against Polish Jews, who were forced to clean the dead bodies and to dance and then were killed by beating with axes, pipes etc. The same type of mass murders took place in Brzezany. During Lviv pogroms, 7,000 Jews were murdered by Ukrainian nationalists, led by the Ukrainian People's Militia.[28][29][30] As late as 1945, Ukrainian militants were still rounding up and murdering Jews.[31]"
Youcrayne has had a Nazi "problem" for a long, long time, There's no denying it.
IOW a plague on both their houses
Funny and by funny I mean not funny how it is wrong to de-russify Ukraine after decades of oppression, murder, deportation and Russification of Ukraine is nazism.
We are definitely living in the matrix
The Soviet Union had ruled between 1922 and 1991 and Ukrainian-origin leaders led the country for more than half of that time.
Nikita Khrushchev
Leonid Brezhnev

“ anybody blame them for wanting to be rid of all the symbols and institutions of that oppression?”
I don’t blame them. That doesn’t make it wise or even sensible to help them.
