Same here. When I first came around the rooms I knew I had a problem but I didn't want to face up to it. Some people don't make though. They either are unwilling or unable to be honest with themselves. Not their fault really. They just seem to have been born that way. Most do make though so that's a good thing. I remember when I first came around full of resentment at all these sober , happy people I said to my self, "This isn't going to work''. The old timers made it easy for me. They said "Hey, friend if you don't think this program is for you, you're free to refund your misery at the door. I'm glad I didn't make that request. In 33 years I have to say my worst day sober is always 100% better than my best day drunk.

Been many years since I regularly heard those amazing words you used. And the old timers of our era were the best. My grand sponsor was with Bob in Akron. I got a master’s and spent twenty years as a counselor, but my sponsor or those AA vets could knock the socks off anything I ever heard in a treatment center.
