Philadelphia bus driver fatally shot while driving; woman arrested

A bus driver was shot to death along his route in the Germantown area of Philadelphia Thursday morning and a suspect is now in custody, police said.

The 48-year-old driver was transporting passengers on the number 23 bus of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, or SEPTA, when a woman opened fire at around 10:30 a.m., police said after releasing images of the female suspect.

I hate city buses. Our taxes subsidize them. Here in California, they get their own lanes that the rest of us can't use ($450 fine). We're stuck in traffic and the bus lane is wide open for miles. To bump this Philly thread, here's a trivia note that is mostly unrelated to this story, for anyone who may be interested.

The SEPTA Route 23 bus route discussed in this story, used to be a SEPTA (formerly PTC, formerly PRT) trolley car (streetcar) route, which was sort of like a mini, noisy, one-car train which actually ran on tracks built right into the streets, and had a single headlight like a train.   It also had a pole coming out the back of the roof, in the middle of the car, which connected to an overhead power wire, providing the power needed to propel these "electric cars".

As for the trolleys — I remember riding those as a little girl. This was WAY back when you could walk the “alleys” behind the row houses in safety, and go down to the little corner store to get a candy bar & pick up a pack of ciggies for your Aunt (she would write a note to give the counter guy, so it was okay)
