Neil Peart was a devotee of Ayn Rand. Many of his lyrics were anti-totalitarianism (2112, The Trees). So, as with most of your Ukraine posts, you’re full of sh*t.

RE: “Neil Peart was a devotee of Ayn Rand.”

Absolutely. Another example was “Anthem.”

They were making music during the Cold War, when many of us were worried about the spread of communism. I remember we were concerned about Canada heading in that direction.

I’m not a big fan of Ayn Rand. Most of us hadn’t heard of her when we were teens listening to Rush. But, we agreed with Rush’s message.

Later, they might’ve tried to back away from their earlier Randian lyrics, but there’s no denying it. The lyrics are there for everyone to read.

“Politically, Peart describes himself as a “left-wing libertarian,” noting that he could never be a conservative due to the right’s intolerance and support of censorship. Moreover, the rise of religious fundamentalism in America and throughout the globe “terrifies” him.”
