Plug-in hybrids fail the logic test. Somehow they got the worst of both technologies. The hybrids that, to me at least, make a bit of sense are the ones that charge batteries as you drive on the IC engine and use the electric motors for city driving or other low speed driving.
Regular hybrids that capture braking energy have some slightly better numbers with 6.3M in use.
