Because I don’t like seeing my tax dollars going to some grifting little Ukrainain weasel who thinks he’s got a lock on the US Treasury.
And the history of these two nations has ALWAYS been the two of them at each others throats.
Why are we supporting a proxy war in Eastren Europe?
The Ukrainians are not saints and neither are the Russians.
This NOT our fight! Let them have at each other.
Ditto ... +1
“fleeced”?
How? Because the US has given Ukraine a mass of obsolete military junk? Even the ATACMs they just got are almost 30 years old.
And in the meantime the US has gotten invaluable real-life R&D that wouldnt be possible otherwise. The hardest thing in peacetime is anticipating what the next war will be like. Militaries tend to get solipsistic.
The dangers and opportunities of Naval drones. The first large scale (truly massive) implementation of aerial drones. The military use of Starlink and similar universal satellite internet. The next time the US has to unblock the straits of Hormuz you will thank Ukraine. Or, perhaps, if the US has to break a Chinese blockade of Taiwan.
Perspective is a difficult state to achieve.
The history of these nations has been of Russia exploiting, tormenting or massacring the other. Rather one-sided.
No because we gave them billions of tax dollars and that little whack job is always demanding more.
We had our navy in the Gulf in 1991 during Desert Storm and did just fine without any help from Ukraine. The same in 2003, again, we didn’t need any Ukrainian help.
I don’t see how some ball bouncing piano playing mediocre comic is any help to us.
The Poles and Czechs weren’t saints in 1938-39. And what did that idea get us?
The Poles were invaded by the Nazi’s. Real ones. And later on the Ukes joined in the Holocaust happily shooting trench loads of Jews.
And as to the Czechs?
Hmmmm.
A place called Munich in 1938 comes to mind when the West sold them out to Hitler.
Uh huh. The US was fighting in the known space (technological, operational, tactical) of the Cold War.
Its a very different world now, 30 years on, with dozens of new technologies about which we understand little, in terms of how they fit in military-political plans.
And personal pique is a poor excuse for decision making. Perspective is key. A vast knowledge of history and an ability to see things from the proverbial 50,000 feet is a necessity.
Its a hard sell, but there we are. As conservatives we should be willing to put in the effort, to do the work. Thats what distinguishes us from the emotional, craptastic, fashionista idiots on the other side.
Its the difference between those who stand, and so the earths foundations stay (apologies to A.E.Housman), and those ... others.
Look FRiend my apologies for being so strident but I just don’t see this as our fight and Zelenskys virtual mugging of our treasury really pisses me off.
Let Europe handle this. It’s their back yard, not ours.
Our stand should be with Israel.
They’re killing our enemies, the Muslims.
Thank you.
They’d be doing the world a favor.
Poland in 1939 was an authoritarian state with no real civil liberties and a strong antisemitic streak.
Ukraine has been invaded by Nazis, or more likely fascists, real ones. See TIK for definitions if you like.
Czechoslovakia was itself a semi-socialist, nationalist state with not entirely clean hands vis a vis national minorities. Thats one reason Slovakia immediately broke away in 1938 and became enthusiastically Nazi.
You can always find fault in a victim, if you favor the criminal.
The Czechs were brutalized by the Germans.
Ever hear of Lidice?
War is always a tango. Good and bad sides.
Let Europe handle this. It’s their back yard, not ours.
Our stand should be with Israel.
They’re killing our enemies, the Muslims.
Fine. Let Europe “handle this” and get their energy from Russia in the future. Tell those Americans in Texas that their good jobs exporting energy to Europe should be in Russia instead. Putin will use that extra cash to ally with Iran and kill more Americans. This that what you really want? I don’t think so.
Energy independence. I don;t care where Europe gets it's energy from. I'm concerned for America. Not a bunch of America hating Europeans.
The brutalities of a Nazi occupation. There were lots of “Lidices” all over Europe. Look up Oradour, in France. Or Marzabotto and Ardeatine, in Italy. Or everywhere really. Czechoslovakia was no exception.
I learned about Oradour sur- Glane when I was in high school fifty years ago.
No Ukraine and Russia are not saints
But Russia is much bigger threat the Ukraine on the world stage
Russia needs to bleed
The Russkies can do that all within their own borders by drinking themselves to death which their doing in earnest.
