They probably think that separation of church and state, as expressed in the First Amendment, is an important Western value.
The idea of a Jewish state is incompatible with separation of church and state.
Years ago, I had a couple of Democrat co-workers who were anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian. They both viewed the Palestinians as oppressed people facing Israeli tanks with nothing to fight with except throwing rocks.
Liberal Jews remain influential in the Democratic Party for now. There may be a point they'll have to switch to the Republican Party but not yet. Maybe in 10-20 years.
They are hamasscrats!
Some well-meaning liberals are obsessed with protecting the underdog. And so, by extension, they hate the tormenters of the underdog.
Here are some underdogs, from the liberal point of view:
Black rioters
Poor whites on death row
Palestinian gunmen
But of course, none of the above are underdogs. The are all criminals, criminals who maim and kill innocents. A well-meaning liberal either cannot (or will not) see that as it interferes with their fantasies.
Why do they hate Israel? They are envious of the Jews.
The only Jews they like are the Soros Jews ... the “Evilists” of the world.
Oh, that one’s easy. It’s the ultimate conflict in the spiritual domain.
Israel == Judeo-Christian == Yahweh (Jehovah) is worshipped.
Progressive left == demonic == satan is worshipped.
They hate America for the exact same reason.
They are anti-Americana and anti-white so how is that a stretch?
It’s all about victimhood, which drives the entire leftist ideology.

Cause their ideology of “equality” means that everyone must be exactly the same. Yet they preach diversity. Their ideology is non-revokable and they have limited knowledge of the causes of events which occured over 100 years ago. Everything they talk about has to fit into their understanding of social theories. This applies t historical events long ago.
