“””I’ve never owned one and I never will own one, I’m not willing to put in the time and effort to train them properly.”””
Right, you will own plenty of guns because they are mere metal, you fear the pit bull because it is an animal with a brain and wild unpredictable behavior that makes an effort to control sound too difficult to attempt for yourself, you make it sound like learning to handle unpredictable explosives.
You admit that it would take lots of effort and training to overcome his natural state, and in your heart, you know that it would still be a pit bull and that all of your training could not assure you that it would not kill your neighbor’s kids or your wife.
I’ve never owned a dog that I thought needed a bunch of training and effort to make it OK as a simple pet, or even to reduce its chances of killing me or other people.
It must be your nature to assume things that aren’t true to attempt to make a point, it’s a typical strawman argument, make up something that isn’t true only to knock it down and think it proves something when it proves nothing.
Every dog requires training, unless you don’t mind if they urinate and poop indoors, never walk on a leash, etc.
I never said Pit Bulls weren’t aggressive, they are and require extra training.
Dogs are like cars in the sense that people like certain cars that I don’t.
A couple of guys in my neighborhood own Corvettes, I would never own one, one guy owns a Rivian Pickup Truck, I would never own one of them, same goes for the Teslas in my neighborhood...
Another guy down the street is retired military, he owns 2 yorkies that have a combined weight of 6-7 pounds, does that make him scared of Pit Bulls.
The pit lovers contention that it requires the *right* kind of training and handling to make it safe to be around is a tacit admission that they are indeed NOT safe dogs. Instead of building their case that pits are safe dogs, they destroy it with that admission.
And the control by the owner is iffy, unless someone can prove that their highly trained and regulated pit has always been perfectly, 100% under the owners control ALL the time and the dog NEVER disobeyed a command ever.
Even then I wouldn't trust it.
