DALLAS (AP) — Walt Garrison, who led the Big 8 in rushing for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, won a Super Bowl as a fullback with the Dallas Cowboys and competed as a rodeo cowboy, has died. He was 79.
The NFL team said in a story posted on its website Thursday that Garrison died overnight. It did not give a cause of death.

I have not researched this, but my wild ass guess is football players have lowest life expectancy than other major sports. Most put on lot of more weight in retirement.
$7 a can in Texas now. They started heavily taxing it several years to ago to subsidize doctors along the Rio Grande. I used to chew Levi Garrett but it went from $3 to $10 a pouch because it was taxed by the ounce. So, I switched to snuff.
I always respected Walt Garrison. He was hard-working, tough and reliable. The kind of running back I always wanted on my team.
But it was this play in 1973 when, with time running out, Kenny Houston stopped him right on the Goal line by picking Garrison bodily off the ground as time expired after he had caught a pass from Craig Morton that would have enable Dallas to tie the game, preserving the win for the Redskins.
I was gratified to read some of the posts here that validated my gut feeling about him all those years ago.
Not a big fan of the pouches. I still dip at work and spit in a paper coffee cup with napkins in it.
Then there’s the story about how Meredith initiated him by taking him out the night before his first game and getting him massively drunk.
When he came into the game, Meredith called for Garrison to run it 3 straight times up the middle. Way to break in the rookie!
I never partook of chewing tobacco but it was allowed in our high school. In the classroom even.
Used to chew in the Army, Redman and Skoal. Hardest thing I ever did was quit tobacco, I had to because I was getting lesions in my mouth and even that wasn’t enough to get me to quit. Finally 30 yrs ago I did. By the way I paid 25 cents for a tin of skoal back then. I heard it costs 5 bucks now, WOW
I found it at a Sheetz chain for 6.
Mostly VA and NC.
Some 7-11’s in SC for 5.80.
Yea, I drive a bit for a living. I don’t burn thru a can everyday like I used to.
Maybe 3 a week. Copenhagen even sent me a portable camping stool!
I kept Redman or Levi in my gym locker. I used during outdoor events as it was allowed.
Never really got the appeal of loose leaf, probably cause it was swallowed once to many times in competition. :^)
