This morning I saw three drones flying over Conway, SC. We live near Myrtle Beach Airport.
If you could see a drone, they were not above 500 feet - which is minimum altitude for aircraft unless over water or the desert.
I saw a drone. He was pretending to be President of the United States.
Little drones like the size of the ones sold commercially, or bigger drones like the Predator or Reaper?
As a side note, Federal law requires that any small unmanned aircraft (drones) weighing more than . 55 pounds and less than 55, be registered and marked with a registration number,
Under normal circumstances and in most countries, consumer drones are not allowed to fly above 400 feet above ground level.
I see a lot of youtubes where the operators apparently did not get that memo.
I’ve seen at least two fly right over our house at very low altitude here in metro Atlanta. One of them was red and white. That’s reconnaissance.
My question too...
Military. We regularly see C-17’s, F-22’s, occasionally a C-135, C-130’s.
They’re part of the double secret project to replace black helicopters with drones.

There are a few details that you and seabeeson might not be aware of.
All you have to do these days is use a phone app to “notify” the authorities that you will be flying within 5 miles of a controlled airport. The one that I use is called “Air Control” from Aloft. It takes less than a minute to get your clearance.
We actually have a house on an airport with a hangar and two airplanes. But our airport is not controlled so I do not need to get any clearance for any of our drones at that location. So, it is not uncommon to see drones within 5 miles of a controlled airport or next to an uncontrolled airport.
As of September 16, 2023, all drones over weighing over .55 pounds are essentially now required to have a "remote ID module" that reports their gps location and can be easily tracked with numerous other apps. If you download one of these apps you can discover exactly where people are flying drones at what altitude and the name and location of the operator.
The color of the drone. I looked it up online and found one just like it. Reconnaissance. These drones flying !ow over our neighborhood are good sized lime a small Cessna or something. Totally quiet.
I can’t find the reference, but several years ago a FReeper was trying to warn of the danger small drones strung across the runway at engine intake height, just past the point where a takeoff could be aborted posed on aviation.

Conway is a bit far from the Myrtle Beach Airport to see a drone. MB used to be my old stomping ground.
The worst offenders have typically been the police who often do not get the required clearances in areas where they are required to do so, fly within the flight patterns of controlled airports, and have caused some near misses with other aircraft. One of our neighbors was a police officer who had an incredibly advanced police drone that he kept in his police car. His attitude was shockingly caviler and everyone who was aware of his drone flying habits was relieved when he moved away.
I should have mentioned to you that our house is on an airpark... an airport with houses built around it.
If it’s military drones like Reapers, Predators, or Global Hawks, then it’s possible their home station is temporarily shut down, and their unit is TDY and operating out of local airport. Provided this is a semi-long term sort of deal. I believe Mountain Home (ID) operated out of KBOI (Boise ID) a couple of years back when their runway was redone. Or least when it was scheduled to be redone, I’d left shortly before.
That the most logical/least conspiratorial answer I could give someone on this issue.
The other thing that might come to mind, is maybe a National Guard unit is operating drones out of a regular airport. Again, going back to KBOI, the Idaho National Guard flew A-10s out of that airport, which kind of surprises me because Mountain Home AFB is only about 40 south-east of Boise, and has plenty of ramp space since the 390th “Wild Boars” deactivated back in 2010.
