Former President Donald Trump has laid out the conditions under which he would be willing to assume the House speaker position. (snip)
"I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress," Trump told the outlet. "If they don't get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer term, because I am running for president."
"They have asked me if I would take it for a short period of time for the party, until they come to a conclusion—I'm not doing it because I want to—I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision," Trump added.(snip)
While the speaker is typically selected from House members, the Constitution does not mandate that the role be filled by a member of Congress. A handful of Republican lawmakers have already indicated their support for Trump taking the position.

Yep. Pelosi had a slim majority too but got things done. We did not get things done even with a Slim Majority. Elections are a little over a year away.
Maybe that will change.
