My understanding of pre-Columbian history is there was a period where warlike tribes in the less forgiving North raided and drove the southern tribes further south. Essentially descendants of the true “first” Americans are down in Chile and Argentina.

My family still uses American Indian. For those who object to the name “Indian” don’t sweat it. India is changing their name and so once more we will be the ones left standing.

“First Americans” is something I will buy, for it’s a fact.
Another accurate term is indigenous people.

I never liked “Native American” as anyone born in the US is a native American. It’s a commie political correct thing that got going a few years ago. I drove through a nearby rez often, and many signs refer to the term “Indian”.
