An 11-year-old Florida boy has been arrested and charged after allegedly shooting two of his 13-year-old teammates during a fight over food after their football practice.
The boy is charged with second-degree murder after he opened fire at his pals Monday night at Field of Fame in Apopka, about 20 miles from Orland, Florida.
'It's a shame. No one wants to arrest an 11-year-old by any means,' said Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley.
The youngster allegedly went to his mother's car to grab an unsecured gun and fired at two 13-year-old boys - after a bag of chips was slapped from his hands.
One victim was released from the hospital and the other remained in stable condition, the Fox35 reported.
The 11-year-old is facing a single attempted murder charge as the police chief said he didn't feel it was necessary to 'stack charges upon an 11-year-old with no criminal history'.
The mother of child, who legally owned the gun, could face charges for leaving the firearm unsecured in the car, McKinley said.
Apopka police received 911 calls Monday night at around 8.20pm and rushed to the scene at the Northwest Recreation Center complex near the football fields.
Officers found one 13-year-old juvenile lying on the ground and the second holding his arm, according to the police report.
The alleged shooter, described as 'very quiet and shy', was being 'shielded' near a vehicle by a man and his mom.
He was highly emotional during the arrest, crying and repeatedly saying he didn't know where the gun was, the police report said.
The arrest report revealed that the juvenile shooter was in a fight with two victims who were reportedly bullying him over a bag of chip.

Just sayin…Doritos are up for throwing hands
From my cold dead hands…😀
Apopka began as a farming and small town business hub, with most of the black community there still active as or descended from poor and uneducated laborers. As Thomas Sowell pointed out, the rural way of child-rearing is to sent the kids out of the house by themselves. In the modern urban or suburban environment that often goes awry.
Yeah I saw that too. Leads me to question every detail in this tabloid news source.
There is a video on the link from local news. Yes the kid did shoot two other kids this we know.
We also know DM has poor journalism skills.
I wonder how many times the bullies had bullied the kid?
No one wants to arrest 11 year olds...?!?
If they try to murder people, thats the least I think people ought to want to do.
Age means zip if its murder/permanent injury.
“I wonder how many times the bullies had bullied the kid?”
28 posts before that is brought up. And I wonder how many others they bullied.
Well, it that kid ever tells me to ‘DROP THE CHALUPAS’, I’m gonna do exactly that.
“ after a bag of chips was slapped from his hands.”
Much bigger bullies.
Not guilty.
“ How can he be charged with 2nd degree murder when neither kid died?”
Daily Mail is written and edited by idiots.
“ I wonder how many times the bullies had bullied the kid?”
Hopefully they learned a lesson and will change their ways.
I’m fairly sure it wasn’t about chips. The kid had likely had a long history of being bullied and blew a gasket. No excuse for shooting but it speaks to parenting I’d wager.
“The mother of child, who legally owned the gun, could face charges for leaving the firearm unsecured in the car, McKinley said.”
Ya think?
