It's 2274, and on the surface, it all seems to be an idyllic society. Living in a city within an enclosed dome, there is little or no work for humans to perform, and inhabitants are free to pursue all of the pleasures of life. There is one catch however: your life is limited and when you reach thirty, it is terminated in a quasi-religious ceremony known as "carrousel". Some, known as "runners", try to escape their fate when the time comes, and it's the job of Sandmen to track them down and kill them. Logan (Michael York) is such a man, and with several years before his own termination date, thinks nothing of the job he does. Soon after meeting a young woman, Jessica-6 (Jenny Agutter), he is ordered to become a runner and infiltrate a community outside the dome known as "Sanctuary" and to destroy it. Pursued by his friend Francis (Richard Jordan), also a Sandman, Logan and Jessica find their way to the outside. There, they discover a beautiful, virtually uninhabited world

Is that Nixon over his shoulder?
Great flick! Didn’t stick strictly to the book but still a good movie.
When the Old Man is showing Logan some of the portraits that used to hang on the walls of the Capitol, a portrait of former President Richard Nixon was originally included, with the line "They used to call him tricky... something." According to Michael Anderson, the gag was considered too controversial at the time.
But the book didn’t have Farah Fawcett! :)
I see, thank you, embedded on purpose as background set humor. Mel Brooks and Quentin Tarantino are good about doing that background stuff. lol
Jenny Gutter
“Starting Farrah Fawcett”
Unfortunately she was in it for maybe 3 minutes.
* Starring
Yes. Jenny Agutter.
Yep. Beautiful
THERE IS NO SANCTUARY
terminated in a quasi-religious ceremony known as “carrousel”
~250 years before it was called “vaccination”.
"It's my job!"
Yes, and that’s a movie I’ll never forget.
Given a little more time I don’t doubt that it will happen for real
or something just as bad.
That and the one where people in vehicles ran over others. Some were worth more than others. Can’t remember all of it, but I do remember it was terrible and to think it could happen again....OMG!
You are right! The nuts think only they will survive.
I saw this for the first time when I was eleven years old. At that time, the plot, action and SFX were what drew me. When I watched it again later in adulthood, the SFX hadn’t aged well but I still appreciated it for other reasons, namely the performances and chemistry of the cast. Nothing like staggering half-cut down the street after closing time with some friends shouting, “Fish, and plankton. And sea greens, and protein from the sea. It’s all here, ready. Fresh as harvest day!”
