Ukraine gets full US military operations from Pentagon despite potential govt shutdown

The Pentagon will exempt its Ukraine operations from a potential shutdown if lawmakers can’t agree on a deal to fund the government by the end of the month, allowing key training and other activities in support of Kyiv’s forces to move ahead uninterrupted, according to a Defense Department spokesperson.

“Operation Atlantic Resolve is an excepted activity under a government lapse in appropriations,” Sherwood said, referring to the named operation for DOD’s activities in response to the Russian invasion.

The move means that the U.S. military’s activities related to the war, such as training of Ukrainian soldiers on American tactics and equipment, as well as shipments of weapons to Kyiv, will continue despite any potential shutdown.

President Joe Biden reportedly told Volodymyr Zelensky during a White House meeting this week that the U.S. will send Ukraine long-range ATACMS missiles, amid growing questions about the continued funding of the war.

In addition to the $325 million military aid package, Biden reportedly pledged during a meeting with Zelensky on Thursday to supply the war-torn country with ATACMS missiles. The long-range missiles, which can hit targets up to 190 miles away, would represent a significant upgrade for the Ukrainian forces, which currently only have missiles capable of striking at a range of around 150 miles.

We didn't miss an election during WWII either.

We didn't have Germans or Japanese on our own soil, bombarding our cities and grain facilities with suicide drones or even manned bombers on a nightly basis.

BTW during our Civil War, Lincoln banned the "Copperhead" party of Northerners who opposed the war, and even arrested an opposition Congressman and drove him into exile. He also suspended habeas corpus by diktat in 1862, in open defiance of the Constitution.

The war has been going on since 2014 after the coup of the duly elected government of Ukraine. It spawned the SEPARATIST movement in the Donbas. They wanted more autonomy from the central government. Now they have seceded from Ukraine.

Ukrainians have been fighting Ukrainans since 2014.

The Uke persecution of ethnic Russians in the now Russian oblasts, along with the lunacy of potential Uke membership in NATO, is why the Russians were forced to act. Yes, there is a civil war aspect to this. The US never missed an election during WWII when we were actually attacked.

Ukraine has only been an independent country since December 1991. About 84 percent of eligible voters turned out for the referendum, and about 90 percent of them endorsed independence. Its borders have changed over the years.

In 2010 Yanukovych, a pro-Russian President was elected. He did not favor closer cooperation with NATO and the EU. The US/EU engineered a coup/revolution in 2014 that removed Yanukovych. This spawned the separatist movement in the Donbas and the current ongoing war. In 2014 Russia invaded unopposed and this led to annexation of Crimea.

It is worth noting that separatist movement is closely correlated to the Russian speaking areas of Ukraine and to the election of Yanukovych. Ukrainian nationalists wanted to eliminate Russian as one of the official languages of Ukraine.
