The University of New England welcomed two former White House chiefs of staff to the Biddeford Campus on Wednesday for the 13th annual George and Barbara Bush Distinguished Lecture Series, offering behind-the-scenes accounts of a presidential administration during a transformational time in history.
Featured speaker John Sununu, former chief of Staff to President George H.W. Bush, and moderator Andrew Card, once Sununu’s deputy, painted a picture of a president who cared deeply about his domestic agenda, even though he was known for his foreign policy.
“George Bush’s reputation as a foreign policy president was earned,” Sununu said. “But (he) was also a fantastic domestic policy president.”

Not just that.
The EMR regs in the PORKULUS helped set the stage for Obamacare.
Something else to thank GWB for.
G.H.W.B. was Reagan’s biggest mistake. He and his advisers thought he needed a “balanced ticket” (a true believer + a RINO). Reagan was so popular he could have had Donald Duck as VP. Reagan should have been thinking about his VP carrying on hs vision after him as the next president. instead, a messed-up next 30 years.
Trump made the same mistake with Pence. Thank God Pence is now gone. But Trump seems to not understand the importance of his VP choice. Trump’s VP MUST be FULLY dedicated to America’s Free Constitutional Republic and DISMANTLING the unconstitutional portion of the federal government which is the greatest threat to our lives and wellbeing.
How many Republicans fit the bill for the qualifications to be Trump’s running mate? But maybe Trump will think outside the box and not choose someone who’s currently in elective office.
And he told us he’s not picking anyone who’s running for president right now . He doesn’t like anybody on that debate stage
So far the only guy I’ve heard on any public forum that says what I’ve wanted to hear is this guy Ramaswamy. How could I root for a guy named Ramaswamy?
From what I could tell, the other candidates wouldn’t let him get a word in edgewise. Don’t know how Trump could judge him based on that.
Bush 41 has his place in history, but indespensible? Seems a bit grandiose praise.
Do historians consider his single term of office an historic time? He fought Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. But was that event really significant in the troubled history of that part of the world?
I thought this was about the other George Bush and I almost exploded.
But yes, the older Bush was a pretty good president, and most likely postponed our ultimate collapse by at least four years.
he was indeed ‘indispensable’ to the totalitarian deep-state, because he was there to re-establish the uniparty and the ‘new’ world order in America after the Goldwater/Reagan counter-revolution threatened to re-establish the small-gov’t America of our Founders.
