I’m the oldest, meanest daughter/child too. I think it’s because we’re truth-tellers. Colonel Jessup in “A Few Good Men” was right when he said [most people] “can’t handle the truth”. They only see rainbows and unicorns and want to be told that that’s what we see too, even when we see black clouds and jackasses. They get irritated and call us mean when we contradict what they say and tell them what we really see.
