Scientists have floated the idea that humans live in a computer game controlled by aliens, and a UFO expert has suggested that would explain the multiplicity of religions on Earth.
Nick Pope, who ran the British Government's UFO project in the 1990s, told DailyMail.com that the simulation theory would be why beliefs vary.
He explained that the intelligence behind what we call our reality may have assigned different tasks to different designers, and mistakes could have been made in the programming - causing us to have contrasting ideologies.
'Often in cosmology, there seems to be a disconnect between theory and observation,' said Pope.
'In religious terms, it would be as if several different gods all had a hand in creating the universe, and all had their different styles.'

That makes no sense. If you’ve never done anything wrong and you’re perfect in every way, then you don’t need grace. Few can claim that. And if you just don’t want to admit you need any help, good luck with that.
And...it’s turtles all the way down.
But the whole point is to be self responsible and self accountable in the first place before the fact. Then you can rightfully say you have nothing to be forgiven for. To admit a wrong if you have not committed a wrong is a lie and a sin in it’s self.
So just be self responsible and don’t do anything wrong in the first place and then you do not need the get out of jail free card. The “knowing” you will be forgiven opens the door to doing wrong because you know you can indeed repair it after the fact.
So for this reason alone people do...
No need to engage in a theoretical discussion on the existence of aliens. There ain’t no freakin’ aliens! There is no mention of Vulcans or Klingons etc in the Bible. Ergo, they don’t exist!
Do you have a preconceived opinion about what the UFO stories are all about? Have you already concluded that it is a government disinformation campaign and that's all?
If you have already made up your mind, every piece of information you consider will confirm your position...and the ones that might contradict your position will be ignored.
That's the way the human mind works.
Confirmation bias is a powerful thing.
IIRC you give off strong Calvinist vibes, but there are a number of different shades of Calvinism, often in stark contrast with each other and the product of serious thought.
Some of them are very interesting on this question.
I’d like to give it more thought, but a lecture calls me to examine this topic much more concretely as exemplified in the life of David (and many other things exemplified in the life of this man after God’s own heart).
There were actually MANY science fiction writers that have posited the idea that miracles described in scripture were alien beings, craft, or doings.
It would not surprise me if the overlap between LSD ingestion and sci-fi writing was fairly well correlated however.
But who does that? Everyone lies (even if they are just little lies), everyone commits lust in their heart, everyone gets prideful and superior from time to time, everyone wrongs another person at times.
I know I am guilty of all the above and more. Maybe other people don't have a sense of guilt, but I sure do.
“Leading UFO expert” aka person escaped from loony bin located.
Are you often a government dupe?
“That makes no sense.”
Yes it does. Not perfect at all, but guilt requires forgiveness innocence does not. I am not going to commit a sin by lying to God if I did nothing wrong. In turn I am being truly honest with him if I am indeed guilty of doing something wrong which does require me to beg for his forgiveness.
Exercising self accountability and self responsibility before the fact prevents that need to be forgiven after the fact.
I fancied myself to be an excellent writer based on my high school experience and wrote what I thought was an award-winning essay in my first class.
When the professor returned it to me, it was covered in bright red correction marks and the margins were full of comments on my errors.
I was stunned.
I went up to the professor after class and expressed my dismay.
His response to me was something along the lines of "You might have been good in high school. But if you want to be a really good writer, you've got a long way to go."
That's the way sin is. Our own estimation of our goodness is probably way off the mark.
That's why when people read the Bible (say, the Sermon on the Mount) and apply it to their own lives, they are stunned (as I was in college English class).
My boss told me I would get fired if I kept telling people to keep an open mind.
The government doesn't like open-minded people.
Did you know I was actually born as Santa Claus? I came right out of mom’s birth canal already sporting a big white beard!
Don’t go being close-minded and doubting me now. If fact, I’d really appreciate it you’d address me as “Santa” here on FR from now on.
different contexts end up with different religions
Per the headline, one should surmise “leading UFO experts” are seriously stupid or simply insane.
"Anything but G-d!"
“Which relieves you of self accountability and self responsibility.”
Not according to Catholic doctrine. You may be saved but there is always temporal punishment due to forgiven sin in the now an/or in the hereafter (purgatory)
