I enjoyed watching that and I’m glad she called him out. He’s a very, very bad man.

A "Broken China" ping.

If you want on or off the ping list send me a FReepMail.

OK, it's well after dinner time today. Today's Broken China update is about food.

The latest 'big' thing in the PRC is pre-prepared foods. This has been pushed as part of the school meals program since last year. Parents are waking up to the highly questionable practices of the food companies. This is on top of the ongoing "gutter oil" brouhaha I wrote about last month. It is estimated that up to 10% of the food being sold in the PRC is adulterated and/or not fit for human consumption. And this is using THEIR standards and not ours.

Videos are surfacing of the food prep facilities and of testing done on some of these 'foods'. This has sparked a backlash with parents cooking for their children and bringing the meals to them in school. BTW - the pre-prepared meals thing doesn't apply to the children and grandchildren of party officials. I know, how shocking? (NOT!)

We also have a PRC businessman, Zhang Hezi, who made millions in providing nucleic acid test during the COVID pandemic moving into the pre-prepared school lunch business. FWIW - Hezi means 'nuclear' in Chinese. During the pandemic he opened 38 COMPANIES. It just so happened that every time he got a new one going, the city would have a lock-down with mandatory nucleic acid testing. To operate a business in China you must have political protection. The bigger the business the bigger the protection you need.

Zhang Hezi is drawing attention. The business reporters are wondering how he always manages to be in just ahead of the 'next big thing' in China. He is also looking into 'non-residential rentals'.

If you tie the push for community kitchens, with pre-prepared school and restaurant meals, with Zhang Hezi you have to wonder just what the CCP is up to and how bad will it be for the average Chinese person. It sounds like "You will own nothing and you will be happy." to me. The "You will own nothing" part you can take for granted. If the "You will be happy." part comes true, it will be a first for a Communist state. Everybody get ready for Cultural Revolution 2.0. This will be followed by the Chinese adaptation of the French Revolution. Mao Robespierre anyone?
