Here’s my dog food recipe. It’s stupid simple.

Boneless skinless chicken breast when it’s $1.99 or less a pound. I do about 8 or 10 pounds at a time.
Peeled and chopped carrots.

Cut up the chicken breasts into 1 inch cubes.

Put meat and some carrots into clean pint canning jars, all raw pack. Pack them full. Dash of salt goes in.
Clean the rim of the jars with a paper towel soaked in a bit of vinegar. This assures a clean tight seal.

Process in a pressure canner for 75 minutes. Let it cool before removing the jars.(but you know that.)

Remove from canner and wash before storing.

Leo loves it. Won’t touch the store bought stuff anymore.

Ping me if you have questions.

Best,

L

I had a friend who made his own dogfood as well.

He got scrap beef, meat and bones, from the butcher and cooked up cornmeal and mixed it together. Said the dogs loved it and thrived on it.

That’s pretty neat that you can the dog food you make also.

I just wanted to add, for those of you with cats, they have more specific nutritional requirements than dogs. There’s a couple of additives they need that they likely wouldn’t get from typical human food. Like taurine. From what I’ve read that originally comes from mouse hearts. But it’s pretty cheap to buy. Without it they won’t last very long.

When we get to pet food as a topic, I’ll post the cat food recipe I found on the internet and then I’ll post the one that I actually used that my cat would eat. As you know, cats can be picky. And I had to modify it because cotton couldn’t have grains or a few other items that were in the recipe. She lived the 17 and a half, she just passed away. And I had been making her food for probably 12 of those years. And she was always healthy, the vets were always pretty impressed with her blood test even at an older age.
