From the album Searchin' For A Rainbow by The Marshall Tucker Band in 1975. Songs written by Toy Caldwell except Fire On The Mountain by George McCorkle and Keeps Me From All Wrong by Tommy Caldwell.

...had some really good music on it.
Well I’m goin’ down to the river
I’ve got a canepole in my hand
I’ve got my redworms in a Maxwell house coffee can
I’m gonna sit under a shady tree on a riverbank where it’s cool
I’m gonna close my eyes and dream and let the cork Bob away my blues
Well I wake up every mornin’ I pick peaches all day
And on Saturday night we’ll have a dance or two we might waller in the hay
Now the only thing that ever whipped my pa
Was this bad dude called old age
And his last years was his best years
And this is what he had to say
He said boy I’ve worked this dirt all my life but things ain’t been good for awhile
Why don’t you move to the city make a little money you might be the first one in
The family ever to die with a smile
Well I took his advice things goin’ well
But my friends are far and few
But whoever said a city boy can’t have the country blues
Whoever said a city boy can’t have the country blues
Whoever said a city boy can’t have the country blues
Well honey they ain’t talked to me and you
Saw them live in that era, 75-77. Good times.
I saw them at PSU early 80’s in Rec Hall. I think it was an $8 ticket.
with Charlie Danial’s, great show...
I saw them in Vegas in an off strip casino in the 2000’s. Marshall Tucker’s sister’s son was playing guitar for the band and did a 10 minute guitar solo that was amazing. Good times.
Actually I think it was Doug Gray’s sister’s son.
It was Clay Cook.
Was stationed in the south from ‘72-75. Saw M.T. I think three times.
Allman Bros, Charlie Daniels, ZZ Top, all of them....we didn’t know what we were in the middle of.
GREAT album. “Can’t You See” turned me on the Marshall Tucker. One of my favorite bands.
Thanks!
Loved them from the first listen.
Still hear them on my phone almost daily when working out/walking.
