In the war between Russia and Ukraine, all eyes are turning to Crimea again. As we all know, Crimea holds the key to end the Ukrainian war. For this reason, it is often at the center of attacks. However, in the last week, attacks on
Russian formations on the peninsula have accelerated.
While today started with good news for Ukraine, the situation for Russia was quite bad. After the heavy attack on the Russian navy in Sevastopol, the Russians lost one submarine and one amphibious warship, and within 24 hours, there was a new round of attacks on Crimea.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces damaged the patrol ship Vasily Bykov of Project 22160 and two Russian patrol ships of the same class. This information was confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces Starcom. The extent of the damage and the weapons used to hit the Russian warships were not specified in Stratcom’s report.

The 25-second video begins with naval drones approaching the Russian patrol ship. In the following seconds, the footage shows fireballs burning on the water.
A few hours after the news that Ukraine damaged two Russian patrol ships hit the agenda, striking statements came from Russia. Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that surface drones attacked a ship belonging to the Black Sea Fleet.
The ministry said five unmanned navy boats attacked the patrol ship “Serhiy Kotov” in the morning. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Within 24 hours, the Ukrainian navy managed to damage 2 Russian patrol ships, 1 amphibious warship and 1 submarine.
However, the most important development of the day took place in the Yevpatoria region of Crimea.
The Ukrainian security service and the military counterintelligence of the Ukrainian navy conducted a unique special operation in Yevpatoria, temporarily occupied Crimean territory. In the spectacular operation, drones and Neptune missiles worked effectively on the target. With this operation, Ukraine appears to be increasing pressure on Russian forces in Crimea and hunting down S-400 air defense systems with the Neptune anti-ship cruise missile, redesigned for ground attack missions.
The SBU drones first hit the eyes of the complex, namely the radars and antennas. After disabling the radar stations, the naval units hit the S-400 Triumf launch complexes with two Neptune cruise missiles. According to the results, as a result of the attack, the Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system worth 1,2 billion US dollars was destroyed.
In Yevpatoriya, 400 people were neutralized in the attack, which also involved cruise missiles and drones. Ukrainian media learned this from their own sources in the Ukrainian security service. An OSINT researcher has published satellite images showing the S-400 Triumph radars and launchers. The photos were taken about two weeks ago.
The published photos showed tourists in Crimea posing against the background of the S-400 air defense system near Yevpatoria.
Moreover, thanks to the photos, OSINT inspectors were able to determine the exact coordinates of Russia’s air defense.
A video has also emerged showing successful training against enemy targets in Crimea. A series of powerful explosions were heard near Yevpatoria, followed by a large column of smoke.
The footage also shows the occupiers firing tracer bullets into the sky with small arms. On the other hand, an eyewitness to the morning attack in Yevpatoria expressed panic and fear that they had never heard such powerful explosions before. The woman said that the first explosion occurred at 5.30 in the morning and then she started counting the explosions. The eyewitness managed to count 14 explosions in 15 minutes. It was quite a dramatic scene for the Russians in Crimea as the sound of an explosion echoed every minute.
Recall that on August 23, a modified Neptune anti-ship missile hit and destroyed an S-400 Triumf near Olenivka in western Crimea, damaging the launcher and surface-to-air missiles. A day after this destruction operation, the Ukrainian Navy landed in Crimea, raided a Russian base and successfully returned without casualties.
The R-360 Neptune, on the other hand, is a subsonic cruise missile originally built by Ukraine to counter enemy naval forces. In April 2022, just a few months after the Russian invasion, Ukraine sank the Project 1164 Slava-class cruiser and the Moskva, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, with a pair of land-launched missiles.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with Karim Khan, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), who is on a visit to Ukraine.

Following the meeting, Zelenskyy said that the cooperation between Ukrainian authorities and the ICC was systematic and brought accountability for Russian war crimes closer.
I met with @KarimKhanQC to further Ukraine-ICC cooperation.
It has already achieved a lot, including the historic arrest warrant for Putin. Yesterday’s opening of the ICC Office in Ukraine will achieve even more.
Justice for Russian crimes committed in this war is inevitable.

BACKGROUND
The Ukrainian ICC office started working on 14 September 2023. The parties signed the agreement on its opening in The Hague at the end of March this year.
In March 2022, the ICC began investigating possible crimes committed in Ukraine. To collect evidence of Russian war crimes in Ukraine, a joint investigation team was set up, which includes several European judicial bodies.
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, who is the Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, for possible involvement in the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia and deep into the occupied territories.
The ICC can consider war crimes committed by individuals, but in the case of Ukraine, it will not be able to bring the Russian leadership to justice for the crime of aggression. In this regard, Ukraine is promoting the idea of creating a special tribunal against Russia.

Prigozhin is dead, Wagner is no more, Surovikin is out. Kadyrov is on his deathbed although the Chechens were not significantly involved. Russia's best leaders and Wagner, their most effective unit, are gone. The change in command without proper hand off means Russians leadership in several areas are starting over from scratch using someone else's plan. That's not a good situation when the previous command laid land mines everywhere.
