A transgender high school tennis coach has been rehired following a controversy that occurred in the girls' locker room.
The board of the Gettysburg Area School District in Pennsylvania voted 6 to 2 on September 5 to renew tennis coach Sasha Yates' contract.
Yates' employment came under scrutiny after an incident in the fall of 2022 when the coach changed clothes in the girls' locker room, reports PennLive.
The principal for Gettysburg Area High School, Jeremy Lusk, sent a letter to Yates about concerns raised with the administration about professional boundaries.
Sources familiar with the matter say Yates did change in the locker room, but only took her top off, and did not fully undress.
he letter also alleges that Yates asked students about menstrual cycles and preferred underwear, which she denies happened.
During the school board meeting, nearly 40 parents, students and community members spoke on the matter.
Molly Heaton, a member of the girls' tennis team, said of the coach: 'As someone who has been coached by her, it is clear to me that this matter is not a question of her character as much as it is an attack on her identity.'
Tristian Smith, a senior at the high school and team captain for the boys' tennis team, said he has been coaching the girls' team in the coach's absence.
'There is no validity in the disgusting claims I've heard about my coach. I cannot stand here and refuse to acknowledge that blatant transphobia is the main motivation behind this motion,' Smith said.
'I am sure I speak for all of us players when I say that coach Sasha not only respects all of our personal boundaries, but she accommodates and advocates more than anyone I know for us as players as human beings.'

When I was in HS this “coach” would have a sudden change in the teaching method and a lot of tennis rackets would need repair.

Students need to drop off the team. Female teams facing other teams need to just refuse if the other team has trans players. At some point the coaches and schools will get the message.
