I know which books were being burned. They were books the Nazis found offensive. Books written by Jews, books written by communists, books written by deviants, etc.

I hope you’re not suggesting that the Nazis were correct in burning at least some of those books. In a free society it should be up to the individual, not the state, to decide which books should be read.

Of course Nazi Germany was not a free society. We (the US and Canada) are moving in that same sad direction.

Beg pardon. That was far from the only book burning the Nazis did. The ones that made the newsreels were at major universities all over Germany and included everything by Jews.
