“No. Its a constitutional republic.”
Technically it’s both, you cannot have a Democratic Republic without a constitution consenting that the government will be run by the people. In other words the Constitution gives permission for the Democratic Republic to exist.

Personally, I think they need to spend a week living in North Korea or Cuba, so they can see how wonderful having a Republic WITHOUT democracy is.
