my diesel Golf got 50 mpg. I used to park it in the special slots for energy efficient vehicles that virtue signalers use.

sister had/has one. It was a great car except that it was illegal because VW jiggered the control software “illegally” to get great performance which violates EPA rules.

The article didn’t mention some dealers not even selling certain popular brands anymore as a direct or indirect cause of EVs coming on the market. We have lost 2 major brands in our town so far. Sometimes there is apparently just too big an expense to convert various dealer services to change over to what the manufacturer expects. In my opinion, the manufacturer will learn the hard way in the long run.

You had a 1950 Ford Falcon when they came out 10 years later? Typo error I think. However the falcon was a good example of an inexpensive & fairly good small car that the public could actually afford, AND a decent used Falcon could be found & was a good buy also. Can’t say that much for an EV & particularly not a used one.

I understand why this push for EVs came out on Joe Biden’s watch. Why not? Everything else he did was doomed for failure too.

Unless you charge directly from solar, from an engineering perspective, the number of times energy is being converted makes the idea a non-starter.

Energy is lost in each conversion before it is finally converted into forward motion. I don’t know for certain, but I’d think the loss charging and discharging in the battery is substantial.

EVs which rely on batteries alone for power storage are a dead-end, suitable only for niche applications, and are no more applicable to wide adoption than the mini-car designs from the 1950 to 1960 era, and which were little more than glorified motorcycles.

A fad that shall soon face.

The leftists won't stop until we're all on bicycles.

...or public transportation

Guess the big three are maybe jumping the shark too early with their push to go all elec? But, subsidies

~~~~~~~~~
They are already backing off. Ford is way over stocked with EVs that nobody wants Personally, I wouldn’t buy one if they had a “Buy one get two free” sale.
I want my 1950 Ford Falcon back. Stick shift so hard to steal. 29 miles per gallon. Easy to fix anything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I learned how to drive in my dad’s ‘49 Plymouth, stick on the column, no power brakes, no power steering, no turn signals, no seat belts, hand cranked windows, dimmer switch on the floor, bench seats, no A.C. but the heater worked great. Optional radio. I loved that car.
