The owner Florida restaurant Rick's on the River has taken unique approach to dealing with growing problem of 'dine and dash' customers.

Ken Brackins, a second-generation owner of the Tampa establishment, installed 16 security cameras outside the establishment around two years ago and is now shaming customers into paying their bill by sharing footage of them on Facebook.

The system seems to be working, with Brackins catching nearly a dozen dashers who eventually paid their bill - with many begging him to delete the videos.

He told DailyMail.com: 'We believe it's been a deterrent for those that have been caught. They're embarrassed and hopefully won't do it again in the future.'

In the latest video posted last week, an employee confronts a woman in a Mercedes in the parking lot over an unpaid beer tab. Accompanied by circus music, the video provides a closeup of her face and captures her license plate.

It has gained significant attention on social media, garnering nearly 9,000 views and hundreds of comments, mostly supporting Brackins' unconventional method and condemning the customer.

The captions reads: 'This latest dine and dasher spent her beer money on a fancy, late model Mercedes. She refused to pay her entire tab because she said the wind blew over her pitcher of beer.

It’s perfect. Like rental car places, put a deposit on the card that is 100 a person and at the end of the meal, the restaurant charges actual price. I think it’s brilliant. You dash and the entire deposit is applied to the card. Obviously the 100 dollar a person deposit can be decided on the type of restaurant. Maybe Outback can be 30 a person and a five star 500 dollars per person. Would completely change the entire situation.

Sounds like the dasher paid in ‘Cimate Change,’ too!

I like the approach.

So do I. A good friend of mine worked part-time at a nice seafood restaurant when we were in college. She made good money, but she had the occasional dine and ditchers. It was rare, but it sucked because she had to cover the tab out of her earnings whenever it happened. It would set her back a shift or two.

“On I-80 about half way between Tahoe and Sacramento there is (was?) a restaurant named Dine & Dash”

Still there. Would appear to be decent grub.

Check out Dine N Dash!

“Like rental car places”

Hotels, too. They get the CC up front to cover the cost of “incidentals” during the stay as well as the room cost. When you check out you can have the charges remain on the card, or pay another way if you want to, e.g., cash.
