The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Defense Forces continue to conduct offensive defense in the Bakhmut and Melitopol sectors of the front, and also achieved success in the Robotyne-Novoprokopivka direction. For these successes to continue, the Ukrainians’ primary objective was to make a major breach in the Russian 1st Main Line of defense in Zaporizhia. The Ukrainians achieved this. But in order to increase Kiev’s opportunities in these areas, it needs to encircle the Tokmak direction and open the 2nd breach there. And then the Ukrainians are expected to go on an adventure to Melitopol.
Let’s explore how this breakthrough, which covers the critical areas between Orikhiv and Melitopol, is taking place. First of all, there is evidence that clashes are now intensifying in other sectors as well. On the Berdyansk axis, first and foremost in the area of Novodonetske and Novomayorske settlements, we are seeing such situations this week. The area between Pryiutne and Novodonetske in Velyka Novosilka is also quite active. There, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently advancing from Novodonetske towards Novomayorske.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are conducting military operations in two other directions. To the west of Orikhiv, these are attacks on Kamianske near Vasylivka. There is also good news south of Orikhiv. Its Russian-appointed head, Yevgeny Balitsky, reported that the Russian army tactically abandoned the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. That is, Russia has completely abandoned this settlement. After that, the Ukrainian Forces achieved another breakthrough near Robotyne. The gap in the Surovikin Line was significantly widened. War analysts report that Ukrainian forces have widened the gap in Russian defenses near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region, the so-called Surovikin Line.
Intelligence reports indicate that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have started to use infantry more actively in this direction. Ukrainian troops also moved closer to the Russian defenses between Robotyne and Novoprokopivka. Judging by some of the activities of the collaborators, they say that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been carrying out artillery strikes in this direction for several days. A large number of minefields have been destroyed during the work of Ukrainian artillery in these last few days.
There are also Ukrainian breakthroughs southwest of Orikhiv. Retired colonel Viktor Kevliyuk, a military expert at the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies, noted that there are three sectors available on the front where the Tavria Operational-Strategic Force Group is infiltrating the Russian defense. These directions are the strategic trenches on the Vasylivka side southwest of Orikhin, an area about 30 km wide from the village of Zherebianky northeast of Vasylivka to Nesteryanka, and a section 3-5 km deep.
But today’s most important news came from near the settlement of Verbove, southeast of Orikhiv. Ukrainian forces are advancing towards the wooded positions east of the Russian anti-tank ditches and the dragon’s tooth obstacles, part of the three-layer defense, just west of Verbove. Ukrainian light infantry also reached a series of prepared Russian defensive positions along the road from Verbove northwest to this settlement. In addition, Ukrainian forces appear to be making gains with infantry attacks and heavy artillery fire on Russian positions further inland and south of this layer, in the immediate vicinity of the as yet unviolated Russian defensive layer stretching from northwest of Verbove to north of Solodka Balka.
So first Ukrainian troops made a major breach in the 1st Main defense line between Robotyne and Verbove in Zaporizhia. Now the Ukrainians have stepped up their military activity to open the 2nd breach in the Tokmak direction to reach Melitopol. Ukrainian troops have already established a complete blockade of these areas and launched siege operations. To this end, Kiev’s current target is Tokmak and beyond. The section between Novoprokopivka and Verbove, which achieved the greatest success in the Tokmak direction, is about 10 km wide and up to 8 km deep.
The Ukrainians want to use this line to capture Tokmak completely. Seeing this vulnerability, the Ukrainians have already made a move to land in the settlement. According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Operational-Strategic Force Grouping Tavria, Ukrainian forces have advanced through the main Russian defense line towards Tokmak.

UP journalists have managed to identify Oleksii Kavylin, the son-in-law of former Ukrainian lawmaker Yevhen Chervonenko, at the villa of a currently sanctioned Russian oligarch, Viatcheslav Kantor, in Geneva, Switzerland.

DETAILS:
Ukrainska Pravda’s sources in law enforcement agencies say Chervonenko is currently affiliated with Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.
Meanwhile, the UP managed to film the son-in-law of a Ukrainian defence intelligence official at the villa of Russian oligarch Kantor in Geneva.
Kavylin headed the Main Department of Ukraine’s State Fiscal Service in Kyiv Oblast from 2016 to 2019.
In a comment to the UP, Kavylin said he “does not remember” whether he was in Geneva at Kantor’s house on 17 July 2023.
When asked to elaborate, Chervonenko’s son-in-law claimed that “it is impossible”.
Chervonenko himself, when asked about his son-in-law at Kantor’s house, said he “doesn’t like people looking into his dirty laundry”. He claimed that he had a long-standing connection with Kantor. Notably, Chervonenko used to be a vice-president of the European Jewish Congress, and Kantor a president of said association.
Chervonenko stated that his son-in-law works and lives in Ukraine. Chervonenko alluded to the fact that his son-in-law travelled abroad with official permits or letters for a reason. The former lawmaker said Kavylin could easily have become one of the main characters in the Monaco Battalion but did not [Monaco Battalion is a name for Ukrainian politicians, civil servants, members of the Ukrainian Parliament, influential businessmen and other officials (and their family members) who went abroad during the hostilities between Ukraine and the Russian Federation – ed.].
The UP reports that Chervonenko’s son-in-law has left Ukraine five times since the beginning of the year, including under authorisation letters from Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
During one of the trips, Kavylin stayed at the house of a sanctioned Russian oligarch.
Chervonenko had been actively spreading pro-Russian narratives before the full-scale invasion.
In 2023, Chervonenko was spotted hanging out with Russians and recently participated in a video by Russian chanson singer Yevgeny Kemerovsky, featuring a song about the “friendship” between the two nations [Russian chanson is a musical genre with themes of the urban underclass and the criminal underworld, distinct from the traditional French chanson – ed.].
