UP journalists have managed to identify Oleksii Kavylin, the son-in-law of former Ukrainian lawmaker Yevhen Chervonenko, at the villa of a currently sanctioned Russian oligarch, Viatcheslav Kantor, in Geneva, Switzerland.

DETAILS:
Ukrainska Pravda’s sources in law enforcement agencies say Chervonenko is currently affiliated with Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.

Meanwhile, the UP managed to film the son-in-law of a Ukrainian defence intelligence official at the villa of Russian oligarch Kantor in Geneva.

Kavylin headed the Main Department of Ukraine’s State Fiscal Service in Kyiv Oblast from 2016 to 2019.

In a comment to the UP, Kavylin said he “does not remember” whether he was in Geneva at Kantor’s house on 17 July 2023.
When asked to elaborate, Chervonenko’s son-in-law claimed that “it is impossible”.

Chervonenko himself, when asked about his son-in-law at Kantor’s house, said he “doesn’t like people looking into his dirty laundry”. He claimed that he had a long-standing connection with Kantor. Notably, Chervonenko used to be a vice-president of the European Jewish Congress, and Kantor a president of said association.

Chervonenko stated that his son-in-law works and lives in Ukraine. Chervonenko alluded to the fact that his son-in-law travelled abroad with official permits or letters for a reason. The former lawmaker said Kavylin could easily have become one of the main characters in the Monaco Battalion but did not [Monaco Battalion is a name for Ukrainian politicians, civil servants, members of the Ukrainian Parliament, influential businessmen and other officials (and their family members) who went abroad during the hostilities between Ukraine and the Russian Federation – ed.].

The UP reports that Chervonenko’s son-in-law has left Ukraine five times since the beginning of the year, including under authorisation letters from Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

During one of the trips, Kavylin stayed at the house of a sanctioned Russian oligarch.

Chervonenko had been actively spreading pro-Russian narratives before the full-scale invasion.

In 2023, Chervonenko was spotted hanging out with Russians and recently participated in a video by Russian chanson singer Yevgeny Kemerovsky, featuring a song about the “friendship” between the two nations [Russian chanson is a musical genre with themes of the urban underclass and the criminal underworld, distinct from the traditional French chanson – ed.].
