In addition to seeing the movie (multiple times), I read the paperback novelization. It gave at least one reference, with “authentic” footnotes and all, to additional Buckaroo adventure novels. I searched forever for those non-existent books... Very cruel.

I recall at the end credits it showed a splash that said, "Coming soon! Buckaroo Banzai Against the Crime League!"
Or something similar. It never showed up.
