I congratulated our intelligence officers, our heroes, on the Day of Military Intelligence of Ukraine.

We all realize how cool our intelligence officers are. True bravery, powerful results. I thanked the MID on behalf of the whole of Ukraine.

Today I officially introduced the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov. He is a strong person. A systemic person. He has a good understanding of the defense sector. From the first days of the full-scale war, he has been involved in negotiations on weapons for Ukraine. Very sensitive negotiations. Productive. He is also engaged in negotiations on the release of our people from Russian captivity. Rustem also has important results for Ukraine in this regard.

He can reboot the work of the Ministry of Defense. This is exactly what is needed now.
Today’s international talks include a conversation with British Prime Minister Sunak and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Of course, the main topic is security.

I held several important meetings on our international work. This September we have to achieve several very specific results in our work with partners. This includes new weapons for Ukraine - we are preparing the news. And our diplomatic efforts to unite even more countries to restore peace on our entire land. We are preparing more global pressure on Russia.

Anna Hakobyan, wife of the Prime Minister of Armenia, has delivered Armenia’s first humanitarian aid for Ukraine since the war started – devices for school students.

Details: Hakobyan handed over humanitarian aid for online learning – over 1,000 smartphones, tablets and laptops for schoolchildren.

These devices are primarily intended for children from those oblasts where most schools are delivering education online. These are children who have had to leave their homes due to combat action, children with disabilities, children from low-income families, and children deprived of parental care.

Each of these oblasts has received the same quantity of devices – 80 laptops/tablets and 68 smartphones. The laptops and tablets will be given to schools and educational institutions, while the smartphones will be gifted to students from low-income families who are studying at vocational and technical institutions.

“It’s important to understand that devices for children are not just about access to online classes. They also enable them to communicate with their peers, learn new information, and socialise. We are delighted that together with our partners, we can give children such opportunities,” Ukraine’s Education Ministry stated.

The media had previously confirmed that Armenia has sent aid to Ukraine for the first time since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated earlier that Armenia does not support Russia in its war against Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation on 7 September with Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the State of Israel, to discuss, among other things, the possibility of additional support being provided by the Israeli police at Hasidic pilgrimage sites in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy noted the importance of Israel’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Zelenskyy thanked Netanyahu for providing shelter to citizens of Ukraine who left for Israel as a result of the full-scale Russian aggression, and noted the reinstatement of free health insurance for them in Israel.

The parties discussed possible ways Israel could support Ukraine in countering Russia’s invasion.

The Ukrainian leader raised the issue of the increasing number of instances of entry to Israel being denied to Ukrainian citizens under the visa-free regime between the two countries and emphasised the need to rectify this situation.

Given the approach of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and the expected influx of Hasidic pilgrims to the city of Uman [in Cherkasy Oblast, central Ukraine – ed.], ways of ensuring the pilgrims’ safety were discussed.

The interlocutors discussed threats to the safety of navigation in the Black Sea and noted the importance of the “grain corridor” for global food security.

The Head of State declared readiness to continue exporting grain via alternative routes.

“Ukraine has successfully demonstrated the possibility of exporting grain via an alternative route three times already. We are ready to continue doing so. But to ensure the safety of navigation, we need help from our partners, in particular, a significant strengthening of the air defense system in Odesa region,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President of Ukraine informed the Head of the British Government on the situation on the battlefield and emphasized the powerful support from the UK.

The interlocutors paid attention to the continuation of defense cooperation between the two countries, including the possible participation of UK representatives in the Defense Industries Forum to be held in Ukraine in the autumn.

Let’s start analyzing the latest developments in the hottest frontline areas. From the Donbass region to Crimea and even into Russian territory, Ukrainian forces are conducting a brilliant offensive operation with an ingenious strategy. In particular, this operation involves the critical front line between Zaporizhia and Donetsk. It was in these strategic positions that the Ukrainians last liberated Rabotyne and Verbove, and made significant advances south of Orikhiv, towards Tokmak. With the first Russian defensive lines between Rabotyne and Verbove broken, the Ukrainians continued their advance through the Donetsk-Zaporizhia countryside.

The route of the 2-way advance was determined by the priorities of the Ukrainians. Today, Kiev has changed its priorities and directed its army to the wooded areas of the Donetsk line, minefields and areas where the Russians have established defense lines. Now the victory in Zaporizhia had to be crowned. This meant targeting Bakhmut, one of the hardest and most active front lines in the Donetsk region, and the trenches on its flanks. The Russians had last been trapped in a 10-kilometer corridor between Bakhmut and Klischiivka south of the town, after which Russian troops had advanced south of Klischiivka. However, Ukrainian troops were also preparing in Andriivka, south of this town. Ukrainian forces in Andriivka were squeezing Klischiivka from the south and at the same time Kiev forces south of Bakhmut were meeting the Russians north of Klischiivka.

In other words, the Russians had a complete blockade of Klischiivka from both the north and the south. The Russian troops were in a defensive position in this town, and of course Bakhmut’s trench lines were very confused. The Russians wanted to advance on the city and Bakhmut wanted to break through the Ukrainian troops to support his comrades on the flanks. But Kiev had deployed the most specialized units of its army near the southern parts of Bakhmut. Therefore, Russian reconnaissance and reconnaissance activities and harassing fire south of Bakhmut were suppressed by the Ukrainian army’s special forces. The most important Ukrainian special forces unit in this area is the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.

Today, there are a lot of significant developments in the east.

Here, Ukrainians finally regained momentum after the powerful Russian counterattack and started gaining ground. If you still remember, Ukrainian progress has slowed down at the end of August because the Russian High Command understood that they made a mistake by firing major general Selivestrov, returned him to the front, gave him a lot of tanks, and ordered him to fix the collapsing flank.

Even though Russians captured some ground, they failed to return control over any of the lost fortifications, so once the assault units got exhausted, Russians had no chance to retain their gains when Ukrainians launched a series of comprehensive attacks.

The first axis of Ukrainian advance became the forest above Klishchiivka. The main goal here was to cut off the Russian supply road from Bakhmut and secure the flank before launching a much broader attack in the southern part of the region.

Combat footage released by the fighters from the 3rd Assault Brigade shows how Ukrainians were gradually moving through the forest. After several more assaults, Ukrainians managed to establish fire control over the passage near the destroyed by Ukrainians bridge, and Russian forces in the northern part of Klishchiivka were cut off and trapped.

That is why the next logical axis of advance became the village itself. But firstly, while one group of Ukrainians were still going through the forest, the second group already started conducting artillery preparation. Russian sources reported that Ukrainians continued using cluster munitions extensively, inflicting substantial losses on Russian personnel.

Soon, the completely demoralized and devastated remnants of the Russian forces were seen abandoning the village in plain sight. Since the road was cut off by Ukrainians in the forest, most of them went hiding in the tree lines along the railways, hoping to be evacuated before being hit with artillery. This is when Ukrainians finally launched the clearing operation and finished everyone who refused to abandon the village together with the troops in the previous video.

After Ukrainians achieved all of their objectives to the north of Klishchiivka, they could finally start moving in their main direction – toward Andriivka. As you can see from the footage, the settlement itself is not an obstacle, especially as all houses have been reduced to ruins by now. The real obstacle is the Russian fortifications established right behind the railroad embankment, which are conveniently concealed by the dense tree belts and protected from the north by lakes.

As you already guessed, Russian forces are at a tactical advantage here, so just attacking them in front would not really work. That is why Ukrainians cleared Klishchiivka first – they planned to launch an attack toward the least protected areas of this fortification. Ukrainians also opened a supporting line of attack from the south, where Russian defense is also weaker. But before launching the ground operation, Ukrainians concentrated their effort on undermining the Russian defense.

The first thing they did was focus on destroying reinforcements. Ukrainian fighters from the 26th Artillery Brigade released a video showing how they were destroying Russian tanks in the region. In the meantime, Ukrainian drone operators focused on smaller and more mobile targets, especially those carrying personnel.

Finally, Ukrainian Mortar Detachments focused on destroying Russian troops along the embankment itself. Once the preparation was finished, Ukrainians launched two attacks simultaneously and successfully breached the Russian defense on both sides. Russian sources reported that Ukrainians advanced along the tree belts and established new positions on the Russian side of the embankment.

Russian analysts concluded that Ukrainians are conducting a pincer movement in order to push Russians away from Andriivka without having stormed this powerful fortification on front. The fighting is still ongoing, and if Ukrainians manage to withstand the pressure, Russians will have to retreat within 48 hours.
