APD believes deadly shooting near Isotopes Park was road rage related

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department said an 11-year-old boy is dead and the boy’s aunt is critically injured after a possible road rage shooting near Isotopes Park Wednesday night.

APD Chief Harold Medina said there were officers at the Isotopes game when gunshots were heard outside. Medina said gunfire hit a truck that was traveling west on Avenida Cesar Chavez around 9 p.m. An 11-year-old boy was hit and killed and a woman in her 20s was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said the vehicle the victims were riding in may have cut off another vehicle while leaving Isotopes Stadium. Police said the driver of the suspect’s vehicle made a u-turn and began to follow the victim’s vehicle on Avenida Cesar Chavez. A total of 17 shots were fired from the suspect’s vehicle toward the victim’s vehicle. The 11-year-old boy was sitting in the passenger seat when he was hit.

More crime in ABQ. Road rage especially is on the rise. A few days ago a man was shot and killed in a road-rage incident on I-25 south of the city.

In other news, Police arrested a Mexican who is accused of murdering nine in a Mormon community south of the border, and are looking for the male suspect who together with a woman murdered a man in a Central Avenue motel. The woman, covered in blood, was identified and arrested.
