I understand if Liberty Safe was given a subpoena they really have to comply or face big problems.
What I don’t understand is why a subpoena was issued in the first place. I want to see the probable cause that somehow something in the safe was germane to Jan 6.
LEO have to disclose exactly what they are search for in the application of the warrant.
Fishing expeditions are unconstitutional and illegal.
Too late.
They’ve had their “Bud Light Moment”.
Glad I don’t have any of their junk.
“If they didn’t have the combo, they’d just break into it.”
That’s the option of the safe owner. You want to see inside of it, get in yourself!
Hope your warrant is in order.
Liberty safes may as well start the “going out of business” sale now. I doubt there will be many of their safes on people’s Christmas list this year.
In the above linked article, Charlie Kirk lists some of the politicians the the company donated to in the past. Democrat Warnock of Georgia is one.
That’s not the point.
Stupid here people miss the point of the thread.
>> Liberty Safe, the Bud Light of gun safes.
LOL! My plan is to wait until their prices fall so low that I can afford to buy one... to use as a decoy.
Apparently they had one, but not a court order for the company to open it - I believe the warrant was for the safe owner.
one... to use as a decoy.
Most excellent.
Which is irrelevant to the issue at hand. Yes, they will break into it. That doesn't excuse Liberty from acquiescing on a search warrant for someone else's property.
If the safe was sold by Liberty and now privately owned, what does Liberty have to do with the warrant. Sounds to me the owner has the warrant issue.
They also could have not done it IF the safe owner did not grant permission.
If you can lay the safe flat, you can break into it with crowbars. I'm surprised the jack boots even bothered to get the combo.
If my home is protected by a digital lock on the front door, does Fedgov have the right to make the lock maker open it?
Does Fedgov have the right to activate the microphone on my cell phone, or the camera on my private computer?
If my car has OnStar, can Fedgov access it to listen in on me or disable its engine?
The answer to all should be NO, not without the owner's permission.
They are getting epically ratioed on Twitter/X.
The problem isn't really a legal one anymore, it's a perception that Liberty safes aren't safe. Likening this to the Bud Light fiasco does have a certain merit: alienate your customer base and you're going to lose sales. And they're going to.
Have we gone back to “general warrants”, like the ones that helped cause the american revolution. Warrants have to be specific in describing where to search and specifically what they are looking for. It shouldn’t just be, we want to look in your house for anything illegal. If the person is accused of trespassing on jan 6, how is anything in a gunsafe germane to that?
I never did like gun safes. I like loaded forearms close at hand.
They should never have given any information to law enforcement without a direct warrant for them requiring them to do so.
Showing up with a search warrant against John Smith, provides no legal, ethical or moral requirement on anyone to provide information about their sale, service or other interactions with John Smith. This company has shown it cares not about its customers privacy or constitutional rights.
When the cops show up with a warrant that requires you to turn over information, like the combination to a safe you sold, you have to comply, otherwise they should be telling LEO to come back with a warrant… and a warrant thr requires your compliance not a warrant against someone else.
When I worked in the steel fabrication shops in the oil and gas fields we often made steel boxes to store explosives in. They had a simple method of making the lock so one could not break the lock and get in.
I then made my gun boxes the same way but made it extremely tough to get into them even if you have a key. The only way to break in is to use a cutting torch or grinder. And to make that even tougher I welded brackets on the inside of the boxes near the locks which I stick cans of GOEX black powder with the lids off. Any touch with a torch or grinder and BOOM!
I rarely open that gun box as it is so hard to get into!
