That's a funny scene!
This entire thread is making me smile with everyone posting their favorite parts and me saying "No, THAT's my favorite part!" with each post. The mark of a great thread and classic FR!
I just laughed out loud HARD remembering that! Thank you!

Love Jim. Watched him in the I Married Joan series years ago.
Also on Gilligans Island which was watched much, on occasion yes but always enjoyed his characters. Another missed soul when he died. Such a classy individual.
A fun movie
Always loved Jonathan Winters as a child and his TV show was must-watch in the home I grew up in. Not ironically, I came to like Robin Williams just as much due to him being so much like JW. Still remember them together on the Tonight Show and how great they were together. That was a dream come true seeing them together.
RIP to both.
The first theatrical release was a much longer version of the film. I wonder if that long version is available anywhere.
I saw it in 1963. I’ll be happy to see it again - fun wacky humor that’s much better than watching an old man act out his hate for the people and a bunch of very confused delusional individuals dictate our use of English grammar.
Barrie Chase, the woman in the bikini, is the last credited cast member in this movie still alive.
He was just to cool for school but still a Mammas' boy. ;O)
Jonathan Winters expression after running thru the big W.
Such a great movie. I drive by the spot where Jimmy Durante launched off California Highway 74 above Palm Desert a few times a year. I believe the gas station Jonathan Winters destroyed was off CA 74 as well.
Wouldn't pass muster today with the censors in soviet America.
Winters protesting: "But, that's a girls bike. It's a bike for a little girl. I feel ridiculous."
My favorite comedy. Have seen it perhaps a dozen times. I yhink all that is left of the Big W is one burned stump.
Saw this come on TCM last year and couldn’t watch it. Made me miss my parents too much. This cast represented the greatest generation; our parents and grandparents who are now all gone - and when the country and culture seemed innocent and pure. I’ll have to buck up, be less morose, and watch it for the first time...and not through the eyes of a 6 year old. Never thought I’d miss the 60’s!
Even more so the incredible cast - if you’re much under 70, you’ll miss dozens of amazing cameos.
Didn't know that. That makes her 90 now. Had no idea who she was, over shadowed by all the other big names. According to her bio she got around. Not a big star but was in several big movies, like Cape Fear, with Robert Mitchum. Even danced with Fred Astaire on his show.
bikini-clad paramour (restored footage revealed her character was in reality married) of Dick Shawn's dimwitted character in the 1963 comedy It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Cameos.
Even Jerry Lewis got in the script just act like a crazy driver and run over Spencer Tracy’s hat.
I think he was just the one scene?
“Mack Sennett notwithstanding.”
Ya pretty much gotta add that!
Jonathan Winters:
“Everybody’s gotta pay taxes! Even big businessmen who rob, steal and cheat every day have to pay taxes!”
