Jack Benny had a cameo and Rochester was a cab driver near the end of the movie.

“Saw this at the drive in with the family. Scratchy metal speaker hanging in the window & all.”

Me too! This was the first drive-in movie I went to as a child. I loved it then and I love it now. I watch the movie again about every decade or so. Hmm, maybe its time to watch it again.

The idea was to feature every famous comedian they could find........ in one role or another.

Hollywood gossip is that Provine and Sinatra were an item.

Jack Benny, Rochester, Peter Falk, Phil Silvers, Mickey Rooney all also come to mind.
We saw it in a BIG WIIIIIDE screen at a theater in Portland, OR when it came out.

The fire truck ladder scene was incredible on that screen!

Johnathan Winters destroying a gas station was a hoot, and Don Knotts in a cameo was memorable.

Eddie “Rochester” Anderson and Peter Falk were the cab drivers. Edward Everett Horton as the hardware store owner. Joe E. Brown giving a speech. Lots and lots of famous extras including ZaSu Pitts!

It is a classic. They don’t make them like that anymore.

Do believe Sinatra was at one time an item with every glam
star on the lot. Some items lasted longer than others....
but still an item. :-) But boy that man could sing. His latter albums after living his life, were some of his best recordings. MOo

The big W!!, it’s buried at the big W!! I would be reluctant to watch it. I don’t want to ruin the memory sometimes these things don’t hold up. It was more than just those 5. Jonathan Winters tore up a gas station run by Arnold Stang. There was even a brief appearance of the 3 stooges.

Bosley Crowther of The New York Times wrote that the film “is everything, down to redundant, that its extravagant title suggests. It’s a wonderfully crazy and colorful collection of ‘chase’ comedy, so crowded with plot and people that it almost splits the seams of its huge cinerama packing and its 3-hour-and-12-minute length.”

Variety stated “There are a number of truly spectacular action sequences, and the stunts that have been performed seem incredible. The automobile capers are some of the most thrilling and daring on record, Mack Sennett notwithstanding.”

However, the review continued, “Certain pratfalls and sequences are unnecessarily overdone to the point where they begin to grow tedious ... but the plusses outweigh by far the minuses.”

I loved this as a child!!!!!!!!

DITTO! Showing my age for a second or two here: I can name every single person in that movie too.

My long term girlfriend has NEVER seen this movie. She 'n I are going to watch it tonight. It still makes me laugh out loud hard, especially the Jonathan Winters parts!

No I gotta go with Jonathan Winters tearing up Arnold Stang’s gas station after Phil Silvers told Arnold there was a dangerous mental patient coming.

My favorite vignette.......Sid Ceasar in the hardware store.

I like that one a lot too. Jim Bachus in the plane getting drunk and passing out is my favorite. At least today. So many great and funny parts in that movie!

Even funnier was Rooney and Hackett’s reaction to Backus passing out.
