Florida village terrorized by peacocks plans to use vasectomies to solve the problem

Residents of Pinecrest have complained about peacocks damaging the community

The village of Pinecrest is planning to use vasectomies to help solve the issue of its overwhelming number of peacocks, according to CBS News.

News 6 partner WPLG-TV has reported extensively on the problems these peacocks have posed to the people of Pinecrest.

In June, some residents told WPLG-TV that the birds were overpopulation the village and damaging vehicles in the area.

“If I ever send pictures to people who don’t live here, they’re like, ‘Oh my God, you have peacocks?” Pinecrest resident Lesley Russo said. Commissioner Raquel Regalado said that the village has been working to solve problems with the peacock population.

“I know everyone sees them, and they’re like, “Oh, they’re so beautiful,’ but when you have a pack of 20 squawking at 3 in the morning, it gets a little annoying, and everybody calls their county commissioner,” Regalado said. “When they see their reflection in cars and in windows, they attack it. They get on top of the roof — they’re very protective about their nests.”

Regalado added that the peacocks don’t just pose a threat to people’s belongings, but to people’s safety, too.

“The No. 1 complaint is peacocks, and we’re actually moving toward their mating season, where they get very, very aggressive,” Regalado said.

In about a month, Pinecrest plans to take part in a pilot program aimed at curbing the population of peacocks by giving them vasectomies. The plan entails partnering with a veterinarian to perform the vasectomies, hopefully cutting down on the number of birds.

“We’re going to be tagging them and finding out what the population is, what is a sustainable population, and how we can ensure that we can all coexist without property damage, without the peacocks being hurt,” Regalado said.

Regalado added that if the plan works in Pinecrest, it could also work in places like South Miami and Coral Gables.

Reminds me of a story where sheepherders want to cull the coyotes eating their sheep. One lady suggested they catch and neuter the coyotes. A sheep herder replied. Lady they aren’t raping our sheep they are eating them.

The Peacock’s normal vocalization is famously raucous. What will this operation do to them? Raise it a couple of octaves or what?

Why would you not simply capon them? Seems an easier operation would reduce aggression.

Maybe it would affect their plumage.

Fighting peacocks

Peacock vasectomies - instead of just culling a bunch of nuisance birds.

Americans are becoming unsustainably stupid.

I had five turkeys on the farm for about three years and peacocks sound like they may be worse than my heritage turkeys. The turkeys would roost on everything. They would defecate once every minute or so, leaving their signatures on my tractor, my other implements, and all my vehicles. These guys could fly like the wild kind and they would roost on the roof of the sheds and even the house. Of coarse, while they’re roasting they don’t stop deficating. I should have butchered the SOBs, but I found a sucker on Craigs list who gave me fifty bucks each, so I silently proclaimed to myself, ‘Good Ridence!!”

I don’t understand this at all. How would giving the residents vasectomies solve the problem?

Oh, wait. The peacocks are getting the vasectomies. Never mind.

How do they taste?

Good eating, I've read. Recommend 1-1/4 oz. of #6 shot.

Far cheaper to call in a night crew who will show up with silenced rifles, night vision scopes and quietly remove the offenders from the area. That is how they do it when deer over run an area.
But then no one ever said liberals were smart.

I suggest a .410 shotgun. Can carry a .45 Colt with the same load so as to be ready always.
