Why is the a fence screen around Maui fire?

Posted on 08/28/2023 7:55:22 PM PDT by rey

The reason there’s a screen around burned areas in Lahaina? It’s the law.

https://health.hawaii.gov/cab/files/2015/09/Hawaii-Fugitive-Dust-Fact-Sheet-Oct-2014-.pdf

They are supposed to do as much as they can to prevent drift.

A friend just came back from there and said many are restricted from access because of extremely high levels of asbestos. The homes were built during an era when asbestos was a popular element in building materials and is the primary reason there’s so much.

He also said, all the work he saw, everyone was wearing full respirators and they were being checked for proper fit.

The service dogs that are being used are expected to become ill from their exposure.

I also work with people who do animal evacuation and recovery. Most were turned away simply because there’s no work. There were very few animals that survived.

Also, FEMA is involved and they are beyond anal with their approach to these tasks and ensuring their favored contractors make plenty.

Beyond that, there was nothing nefarious to report.

Asbestos abatement…

That is what you're going with?

Lame.

And dogs not surviving due lack of work?

That is a head scratcher.

Reminds me of Baghdad Bob.

M’kay, then I assume the wall is SOP whenever any construction takes place on the Hawaiian Islands.

That fence is NOT going to stop the asbestos from being blown around.

Nor is asbestos an issue unless it is very small particles, like in dust. A chunk of asbestos siding or floor tile poses NO danger at all because the asbestos fibers cannot become airborne.

The people who developed asbestosis worked for decades in a factory with dust everywhere being breathed in 40 hours/week with no protection.

The small amount in outside air does not pose that level of danger.

Just as an aside, in NYS in the Adirondacks, when the wind of blowing from the northwest, the asbestos from the shore of Lake Ontario is blown into NYS and the outdoor air levels of asbestos exceed the level for indoor air requirements as set by NYS.

Sure, it’s usually a six foot chain link fence with green plastic wrap. I’ve never seen what must be twelve feet of fencing and plastic wrap. This isn’t normal.

Since you are going with Asbestos Abatement, where are the pressure hoses to spray water to keep the asbestos from being airborne.

Is that another Water Equity issue that is not resolved?

Don’t forget this is the same government that thinks a poorly fitting paper mask made in China will prevent you from getting covid

No; they think that poorly-fitting masks made in China will make China richer and the USA poorer.

Asbestos? But they burned down. A house with a steel or tile roof and asbestos siding, doesn’t disappear. The siding survives a fire, like brake pads from the 1950’s.
