A tenured professor at the University of California, Riverside, who has long been accused of fabricating her Native American heritage, will be allowed to retire with full benefits and her title intact.
Ethnic Studies Professor Andrea Smith will reportedly be allowed to keep her current position through August of 2024. She will be allowed to teach classes until then.
The separation agreement comes in the wake of a recent complaint by more than a dozen faculty members, who accused her of violating academic integrity by lying about her Native American lineage.
The agreement is unusual both in that it will allow Smith to retain full benefits and status, and in that the university will pay Smith up to $5,000 to cover the legal costs she undertook to resolve the complaint.
Smith and the school signed the deal in January. Its terms avoid an investigation into the faculty complaint and allows Riverside to dodge the legal battle that could be the result of its move to fire a tenured professor.
Accusations that Smith lied repeatedly about her Native American heritage date to at least 2008, when she was denied tenure at the University of Michigan, prompting her supporters to rally around her.
Upon her departure, she will retain her benefits, and will be permitted to use the honorary emeritus title.
A spokesperson for the university said the agreement 'brings a timely conclusion to Professor Smith’s continued employment with the university.'
'Investigations of a tenured faculty member for alleged misconduct have potential for litigation and appeals, and can unfold over the course of years,' he added.
When allegations first surfaced in 2008, Smith's dissertation adviser, famed radical activist, Marxist, and academic Angela Davis called her former student 'one of the greatest Indigenous feminist intellectuals of our time.'

My grandfather left the reservation in Oklahoma in 1934 and went to Alabama to mine coal.
What Rez?
Cherokee.
He spoke Cherokee, but wouldn’t teach me more than a few words because he said I should concentrate on being an American.
Very much in the Islamic sense of lying.
Maybe she is a protoge’ of Pocahontas Warren who stole millions claiming Native Indian Heritage.......
I had hoped to see, during barry soetoro’s reign, a bunch of White South African farmers come across the southern border and claim asylum, saying they were fleeing racial genocide in their African homeland.
Does she have to return all the $$$ she earned ias that professor. Of course not because Lyawatha didn’t have to returned the $$$ she was given as a native American while attending college.
Apply for a position at Harvard or an ivy league school. Narrative matters more that truth in the ivy league.
Just like Obama she made it to the finish line. Kudos. The rest is water under the bridge.
If you’re a liberal democrat and promote the Party narrative you will be richly rewarded, and usually with OPM (other people’s’ money) regardless of any moral, ethical, or legal transgressions.
I wonder if she could possibly be a decendent of the lost “Fugawi” tribe. She does have sorta kinda fat cheek bones.
So no repercussions whatsoever for the lies.
As usual.
Her bogus claim of being an Indian wasn’t the important part of her resume, it was that Angela Davis spoke up for a Marxist, feminist fellow traveler.
If she was a full blood Cherokee but a staunch conservative, who voted for Reagan and Trump they would have called him a an “Apple” red on the outside. And white on the inside and this an white nationalist and they’d force him to repay every penny of his salary.
Ward L. Churchill didn’t get off so easy when fired from the University of Colorado.

That’s the part that angers me!
I knew a woman from Corte d’Ivore……white as snow. She used to put “African American, as her race….it was funny watching a woman explain to her, “that’s not what we mean.”
Hey, Teresa Heinz Kerry; Lurch's wife, referred to herself as a "Continental African".
Ah! Well that clears it up.
The sin that really got him fired was plagiarism. I think they threw in the bit about falsifying his ancestry as an afterthought.
