The original settlers in Georgia had outlawed slavery until James Habersham—Kemp’s ancestor...
Habersham’s reward for bringing the slave system to Georgia? He was appointed acting Governor under King George II.
Let’s be clear: Brian Kemp did not bring enslaved humans to Georgia. Nor is he responsible for the horrors perpetrated by his long-dead ancestors....
The Habershams imposed the enslaved labor plantation system over the fierce resistance of the small-scale farmers who objected that, once slavery is introduced, they too would be reduced to servitude. To these original Swiss-German freeholders, slavery was an abomination before God. The farmers of Darien, near Savannah, wrote a unanimous petition to the King’s counselor, stating, “It is shocking to nature that any race of mankind and their posterity should be sentenced to perpetual slavery.”
Few Americans know that Jefferson’s original Declaration included a long segment attacking the slave trade, a direct threat to the Habersham’s lucrative lock on the local slave auctions. The anti-slavery clause was the only part of Jefferson’s Declaration that was removed by the Continental Congress under pressure from the Georgia delegation headed by Joseph Habersham.
Paying reparations is gonna be a beotch.
"...But I'm gonna smear that sucker, by golly! Don't vote for him next time!!! Cancel him!!!"
Oglethorpe was against slavery. He left Georgia for England and never came back because of it.
Who sold the slaves that were brought here?
Why did Native Americans capture and hold slaves between other tribes?
Whos currently enslaving people in human trafficking today?
What ethnicities were endentured servants?
We could go on forever on this crap.
Ha ha b
So they had a better chance of surviving what they would have faced in Africa?
So what?
Accusations are easy to make. Also, there are a lot of unsupported interpretations. Do private schools equate to segregation? Does voter integrity legislation suppress Black votes? Anything is possible in a particular year I suppose. However, this comes across as necessary connections, which is just wrong.
While digging up dirt on the past, it might be useful to consider party affiliation. I expect that many of Kemp’s worst ancestors were Democrats.
What I care about is Kemp’s motivation for protecting election cheating, including the absurd lie that there is none. He totally STINKS! May almighty God cast him down!
Indeed.
You’re probably right.
I don’t like Kemp, at all, but he has nothing to do with what his ancestor did.
So it is time to bring back slavery?
1730 — “Cherokees and British sign Treaty of Whitehall ... recognizing King George II as the chief protector of the Cherokee.
. This agreement also bound the Cherokee to return captured enslaved people, in exchange for guns. Critically, it bound the Cherokee to fight against any group, native or white, which threatened the British settlements, and to prevent any other group or nation from living among them.”
May have applied to Georgia lands too before slavery was introduced to that state.
It wasn’t Kemp. I had a guy tell me that it was “a couple of black guys” who brought slavery to Georgia. He researched it.
“What I care about is Kemp’s motivation for protecting election cheating”
That is why I posted the quotes.
Whites who tried to snatch chattels in Africa could expect to be speared if discovered. Two-legged chattels had to be paid for by the slave ship operator.
I suspect the slaves were probably a mixture of captured members of other tribes or criminals. If they weren’t enslaved, they probably would have been killed.
O’Bama’s mother’s family were big slave owners. How come slavery is a big deal now and O’Bama got off Scot free? Hypocrites!!!
