In September 1939, Southern Californians were pummeled by four tropical cyclones that hit the region within weeks of each other. Each of the four made landfall at varying stages of cyclone development.
[T]he first three storms were remnants of hurricanes with tropical storm-level winds, moving into the area after making landfall in Baja California — a similar path that Hurricane Hilary appears to be taking.
The most notable of the bunch was the fourth storm to make landfall in the region, touching down in Southern California on Sept. 25. The unnamed storm hit near San Pedro...becoming the first and only recorded instance of a tropical storm making landfall in the Southern California region directly.
Winds during the storm reached speeds as high as 50 miles per hour in the region, NASA said. The storm also brought upwards of five inches of rain to parts of the Los Angeles basin and 12 inches of rain to surrounding mountain areas.
Flooding due to the unprecedented levels of precipitation left thousands stranded in their homes. According to historians, some streets had standing water as deep as three feet.
Over 100 people were killed as a result of the final storm that month, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association reports from the time. Roughly half died due to flooding, while the other half drowned at sea.
After the storm tore through the region, parts of Southern California were left with over $2 million — or an estimated $42.4 million based on 2023 inflation — in damages to structures and agriculture, NWS said.

Rain and flooding. I’m sure they’ll be spots the flood but they have some good drainage. I imagine the storm wash away a lot of trash, be an improvement for the whole area.
Made the mistake of checking in with the weather channel earlier. Obviously it’s a full blown global warming meltdown over there.
Stay away.
I have a recording of a broadcast of the Old Fashioned Revival Hour, a religious program, that took place during the 1939 hurricane. the power was out in the studio, but the transmitter still worked, so the show went on. Much of the broadcast consisted of choral music, and the singers had to try to read their music by candlelight, as did the preacher, Charles Fuller. But they pulled it off.
It’s just weather

BREAKING NEWS Hurricane Hillary
https://rumble.com/v39k5az-breaking-news-hurricanehillary-hurricanehilary-flooding-live-coverage.html
The current pressure is 984mb and rising rapidly which indicates its not much of a storm.
Already this hurricane has been downgraded from a 4 to a 1, and expected to be a tropical storm when it hits the Southern border.
This alarmist agitiprop is now a common feature of the MSN.
The bet here is that the fake news media will find a way to blame Trump.
Isn’t anyone going to tell Hillary Clinton jokes?
It's sad that we can't just simply follow what is actually a pretty cool weather event without leftists spewing talking points as if they are undisputed fact. The media simply won't allow that.
For exiting The Paris Accords, see if only Trump not done that, all of this wouldn't be happening.
Yeah, 50mph winds. OOOh! So terrifying.
Take a drive with your dog and open the window. 50mph in his face is a thrill to him.
It is weather. Nothing more. And, if LA gets a lot of rain all of the residents will suddenly realize what it means when emergency services constructed the highways to take away floodwater.
This rain storm is being hyped to distract from Maui.
“Rain and flooding. I’m sure they’ll be spots the flood but they have some good drainage. I imagine the storm wash away a lot of trash, be an improvement for the whole area.”
Now I’m wondering if we should expect an EPA Environmental impact assessment after the hurricane. Those probably already exist of course but this one is different in so many ways.
“Already this hurricane has been downgraded from a 4 to a 1, and expected to be a tropical storm when it hits the Southern border.
This alarmist agitiprop is now a common feature of the MSN.”
It’s almost routine on the Eastern seaboard. We do have our moments though.
Notwithstanding any localized damage, this storm is good news. After the wet winter, I’m not aware of any major fires here in CA this year. It’s too early to say this closes the door on the fire season this year… there’s still plenty of time for things to heat up and the Santa Ana winds to kick in, but it helps a lot. A nice drink for what passes for forests in SoCal, and the real forests in the Sierra. Top off reservoirs and a nice bump for Lakes Mead and Powell. Break the extended heat wave. But none of the good news can be mentioned. Gets in the way of the fear porn
And of course the biggest boost: it’ll spoil a day or two of Biden’s Tahoe vacation… they’ll have to stay inside and eat ice cream
Heretic!
They came up with naming snow storms in order to up the drama.
We live about an hour’s drive north of SF.
Last night we kept hearing big jets flying north.
This morning on my 1 mile walk, 2 big jets flew over and were headed north.
We couldn’t figure out what was happening, then it dawned on us that they were flying big planes up north to get them away from this potential hurricane.
