ABC’s article, linked via House Atreides’ post #3, says the appeals court ruled against so-called “split sentences” wherein there was a combination of jail/prison time AND fairly long-term probation, on fairly trivial charges.
Some of the DC Judges state outright that they think those who walked around in the capital without doing anything violent must be monitored to assure they do not do something similar in the next election. The obvious goal is to keep the government’s jackboots on peoples’ throats to silence them. Though the appellate ruling is less dramatic than implied, anything that reduces the abuses by the Deep State is a win.
They ruled that there was an illegal sentencing. You can’t have both a prison term and parole in a federal sentencing.
