If there are plans for high speed rail through Paradise—then no one in Butte county knows. It is not the ideal route for travel—whereas along highway 99 in the valley lowlands might be.

I dismiss this as where there is one absolute false hold—then there are others

Mi saw the fire start over our tree line. I had friends in line of the fire. We know how it started—we had witnesses when it happened. Again high winds and aging power company towers. It was a rusted c clamp that had been up there holding wires for nearly 100 years.

C’mon, man. We want to believe in a conspiracy, and you’re ruining it!

It’s possible that it was the wind and the rusted C clamp as you said, but it’s entirely probable that those who wanted the Hawaiians out of the way so they can digitalize everything will exploit this crisis to their advantage.

Yes. I was not aware the train was planned to go through Paradise.

So, let’s stipulate the fire was started by neglect and incompetence. What was shutting off the water?

AGREED-—

IS there ANYONE under the age or 40 today that can read a map or remember GEOGRAPHY???

Paradise is N E of San Fran—which is the northern terminus of the “Hi Speed Rail”. A decent distance north east.

Thanks Kahuna.

I lived on Maui for 22 years, worked in the Upper West Side for 7, 2 in Lahaina Center. I spent a lot of time in Town and had many friends there. Though I'm now 10 years removed my heart sinks with each picture and story, with my biggest fear is that I'm gonna read somebody's name I know.

I'm getting really sick and tired - pissed - at all the conspiracy bullsh!t and climate change crap placing blame where it is not. As an electrical contractor I'm familiar with the old and rusted condition of the grid. I also know that brush fires are not uncommon and with cane operations gone there is a lot of dried grass. Lahaina is leeward and gets prolly less than 10’ of rain/year and 60+mph winds are very rare. For sure there is some blame to toss around, but in reality this was a tragic combination of all the wrong things.
