Dear Ukrainians, I wish you good health!
Today is Friday, but it’s such a week that it’s too early to sum up the working days.
We are preparing powerful things for Ukraine, strengthening our state, our warriors.
Today and this week in general, it is the main task. Weapons for our warriors. New opportunities for our defense. New support packages from our partners.
We are doing everything so that on the eve of the Independence Day of our country, it can be said that Ukraine has taken another step towards the circle of the strongest states in the world.
Our team is currently working particularly intensively.
You will see the news for Ukraine. We prepare them with our neighbors in the EU. And also in those regions of Europe where our cooperation with the states has not yet been sufficient. And, of course, with our European partners, with whom we have already proved more than once that European leadership in defending freedom is of global importance.
By the way, we have already had important diplomatic successes this week.
The G7 Declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine: as of today, 18 states have joined.
The Peace Formula: already 63 diplomatic missions are working to implement the points of the Formula. It is crucial that the Peace Formula gradually unites the world majority based on our respect for international law and the UN Charter.
The European Union: we are trying our best to make Ukraine ready for the opening of membership negotiations this year.
Today, the day started with a meaningful conference call. As always, the front is the first question. Military reports. The situation is on the front line. Reports of government officials regarding the supply of weapons and ammunition. The report of the Security Service of Ukraine regarding military commissioners and collaborators... Separately, I listened to the report of the Border Guard Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, intelligence regarding the attitude towards our citizens – immigrants who are in different countries, and regarding visa regimes. The things that citizens of Ukraine actually face in the visa issue.
Managers in charge of these issues received appropriate tasks. The rights of Ukrainian citizens must be guaranteed.
And one more. Next week is the time of important events for Ukraine. We will not lose a single day of preparation. We will not miss any result for Ukraine. We work every day. Every day we add strength to Ukraine. And I thank everyone who does the same! For Ukraine – only strength!

Rheinmetall plant producing modern IFVs opens in Hungary

On Friday 18 August, a plant of the German Rheinmetall arms concern was officially opened in the city of Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.

DETAILS:
Rheinmetall plant, which the concern calls “Europe’s most advanced plant for armoured vehicles”, will produce the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle, “the most advanced IFV in the world”.
The plant covers 33 hectares and contains a modern research centre. It already employs hundreds of workers and plans to create another 350 new jobs over the next few years, Rheinmetall says.

As part of the agreement with the concern, Hungary will receive 209 Lynx KF41 in seven models, as well as 18 combat support vehicles and 38 military trucks.
Armin Papperger, CEO of the concern, who attended the opening ceremony of the plant, called it “a sign of our close ties with the government and armed forces of Hungary, an EU partner and fellow NATO member state”.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who was also in Zalaegerszeg, additionally announced the signing of an agreement with the Israeli company Uvision to create a joint venture in Hungary for the production of combat drones.
“Tastes may differ, but if I heard that a country was producing and developing military technology in cooperation with the Germans and Israelis, I would think twice about messing with it, and that is good news for all Hungarians,” the local publication Telex quotes Orbán.
Rheinmetall is in the process of establishing a company in Ukraine together with the Ukrainian state-owned company Ukroboronprom, and will have a majority stake in it. Ammunition, armoured vehicles, as well as Panther main battle tanks will be made on the production line in Ukraine.
Subsequently, the plant is planned to produce up to 400 battle tanks per year and repair Fuchs armoured vehicles. In early July, it was reported that the joint venture would open over the next 12 weeks.

The United States has approved the transfer of instructional materials for F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine at Denmark’s request. This should bring the beginning of Ukrainian pilots’ training on American fighter jets closer.

DETAILS:
-The program contains training modules, documentation and materials for classroom sessions, including information about secret American technologies. Because of this, Denmark needed Washington’s prior approval.
-The approval of Denmark’s request for the transfer of instructional materials to Ukraine is an important step towards the start of direct training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 jet fighters.
BACKGROUNG:
-In July, Ukraine signed a memorandum with 11 of its partner states at the NATO Summit in Vilnius. The memorandum defines the conditions of Ukrainian pilots’ training on the F-16s.
-The exercises should begin in August, but, according to media reports, the United States took a long time to approve the final training plan, since European states did not agree on all its details. Denmark’s Defence Ministry confirmed earlier that the Ukrainian F-16 training would begin by the end of August.
-Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, confirmed Washington’s approval for the Netherlands and Denmark to deliver F-16s to Ukraine after Ukrainian pilots complete their training.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the formation of the Russian delegation to participate in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Putin will not take part in the event, and the delegation will be headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov instead.

The United Kingdom asked Russia to resume participation in the bilateral agreement on avoidance of double taxation, as it does not provide for unilateral suspension.

DETAILS:
The UK government notes that on 15 August it received a notification from Russia to suspend “almost all material provisions” of the double taxation treaty with the UK, which has been in force since 1998.
Downing Street notes that the Convention between the UK and Russia does not allow such unilateral actions, so London will continue to implement it.

“The government views this action with utmost seriousness.The UK has asked Russia to reverse the suspension,” the report said, adding that the government is considering further steps.
On 8 August, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree suspending most of the provisions of double taxation treaties with 38 countries, in particular Poland, the USA, Bulgaria, Sweden, Britain, Hungary, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Norway, etc.
According to the decree, the decision was made “based on the need for urgent measures” in connection with the “unfriendly actions” of some countries against Russia, its citizens and companies. Now the Russian government must develop, and the parliament must approve the relevant bill.
The Double Taxation Convention allows legal entities and individuals who are tax residents of one country but receive income in another to pay taxes in one country.
